Valorant player s0m shared that his return from hiatus was motivated by the opportunity to join NRG Esports, especially because he would be playing alongside FNS on the team.
Despite putting up a strong fight against Billibilli Gaming at Champions 2023, NRG was unable to advance to the playoffs and ultimately suffered a loss. This led to significant changes in their roster, with Marved, Ethan, and Demon1 joining the team while FNS and s0m decided to focus on streaming instead.
Despite the presence of two newly crowned champions, Ethan and Demon1, on their roster, NRG was unable to replicate their previous years’ success. They were unable to qualify for both Masters Madrid and Masters Shanghai, leading to a roster change later in the year in hopes of securing a spot at the end-of-year Champions tournament.
Before the beginning of the second split for VCT Americas, NRG made the decision to reunite with the two players who had previously brought triumph to the team. According to s0m, this arrangement would have only come to fruition if FNS had also agreed to join the team.

During an interview with Esports.gg, s0m disclosed that he would have not rejoined NRG if it wasn’t for a package deal. This indicates that if FNS had not stepped in, both of them would have continued with their streaming careers.
“Did FNS indicate that the team contacted both of you simultaneously? Was it implied that you would only return if he did as well?”
From my perspective, I would decline their offer if it was just me alone. I believe they were aware of my decision. Therefore, my answer would still be no.
It has been nearly a year since FNS and s0m last competed, but they will be returning to the competitive scene in the second split of VCT Americas on June 22. They will face off against Sentinels, the previous Masters Madrid champions.
