The CEO of Saber Interactive has highlighted the intricate nature of modern gaming while expressing his gratitude to Asmongold for his review of Space Marine 2.
Space Marine 2 has rapidly ascended to become the most-played Warhammer 40K game ever. It’s filled with nods for dedicated fans, yet its intense combat and breathtaking graphics are captivating enough to attract newcomers.
Our team’s review labeled it as “the Warhammer game fans have long awaited,” and players are lining up to support this claim. Space Marine 2 has also garnered significant attention from major content creators, with Asmongold praising its features.
In response to a video by Legendary Drops titled Space Marine 2 is a reminder of what we lost, Asmongold lauded the game for its straightforwardness and its resemblance to earlier titles from the 2010s. Matthew Karch, the CEO of the development studio Saber Interactive, joined the conversation to appreciate Asmongold’s support and shared his perspective on today’s gaming industry.
“When we signed the deal to create Space Marine 2, my primary goal was to deliver a nostalgic gaming experience. We had the opportunity to develop something inherently ‘old school’,” Karch shared, revealing his admiration for Asmongold. “I struggle to understand many current games; they are overly complicated and require too much investment.”
The video to which Asmongold reacted commended Space Marine 2 for its straightforward narrative and gameplay mechanics. The streamer resonated with these views, stating he had “forgotten what it felt like to be the target audience.” Karch seemed genuinely satisfied with these observations.
“We previously contributed to Halo, a game that could be simplified to its core shooting mechanics, yet it remained incredibly addictive. That’s what we aimed to recapture,” Karch elaborated.
A brief reflection on his tenure at Embracer Group revealed that the development of Space Marine 2 was significantly influenced by his experiences there.
“During my time as Chief Operating Officer at Embracer, I witnessed games that were overly ambitious in their messaging or attempts to impose morality on players, which was disheartening,” he explained. “We just want to focus on executing glorious kills and raising the excitement levels.”
The Saber Interactive CEO noted Black Myth: Wukong and Space Marine 2 as promising indicators of a trend towards a time when gaming was primarily centered around enjoyment and immersive experiences.
