On Monday, October 28, 2024, Shueisha revealed plans for a spinoff novel based on the popular Sakamoto Days manga, scheduled to launch on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, in Japan. At the time of this writing, there is no confirmation regarding the English translation and international availability of this new novel.
The upcoming spinoff is titled Sakamoto Days Koroshiya Blues, or in English, Sakamoto Days: Assassin Blues. The novel will be penned by Renka Misaki, as per the latest updates. It has been confirmed that this new installment will feature unique episodes and narratives that are not found in the original manga series created by Yuto Suzuki.
Author of the First Spinoff Returns for Sakamoto Days Novel
Renka Misaki, who previously authored the original spinoff novel for the Sakamoto Days franchise, will return to craft this latest narrative. The first novel, titled Sakamoto Days Koroshiya no Method, translates to Sakamoto Days: Assassin’s Method in English. Released in April 2023, the initial spinoff has yet to be made available in English at this time.
Details regarding the narrative focus of the upcoming novel remain vague, with its overall theme being a general extension of the main series. The original spinoff revolved around various stories featuring both familiar allies and adversaries of Sakamoto. Notably, Order members Shishiba and Osaragi were spotlighted in their own segments, despite their roles as antagonists.
This pattern suggests that Misaki may adopt a comparable method in the new spinoff, potentially broadening the range of characters and their respective stories. Furthermore, it’s conceivable that this second installment may offer a more extensive and enriched experience compared to the first, given the recent success of the mainline series.
The popularity of the Sakamoto Days series is underscored by the announcement of a television anime adaptation produced by TMS Entertainment, which is set to debut in January 2025 and will be accessible worldwide on Netflix. Masaki Watanabe is directing the anime, with Taku Kishimoto responsible for the series script, and Yo Moriyama working as the character designer.
Additionally, the ongoing success of the Sakamoto franchise is reflected in the current serialization of the manga spinoff Sakamoto Holidays, helmed by Tetsu Okawa, an assistant on the main series. This spinoff began its run in Shueisha’s Saikyo Jump magazine in July 2024 and continues to be serialized regularly.
Suzuki’s Sakamoto Days manga launched in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in November 2020 and remains popular to this day. So far, 160 out of the 187 chapters released have been compiled into 18 volumes, with a 19th volume scheduled for release in Japan on November 1, 2024. Out of these 19 volumes, 15 have been either published or announced for English release.
