Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin anime confirms Summer 2024 release date and more with the first trailer

The official staff of the Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin anime announced on Saturday, May 25, 2024, that the series will premiere on July 6, 2024. In addition to this, the staff also released the first promotional video, which includes details about the show’s theme songs and the artists who will be performing them.

The anime adaptation of Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin, produced by P.A. Works, is based on the popular side-scrolling ARPG game of the same name. Developed by Edelweiss and published by Marvelous, the game was originally released in November 2020 for PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC in North America.

Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin Anime to Premiere on July 6, 2024

On Saturday, May 25, 2024, the official website and X (previously known as Twitter) handle for the Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin anime released the first trailer, announcing that the series will debut on July 6, 2024 during the Summer 2024 season. The staff also disclosed the broadcast information in this announcement.

The airing schedule for the Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin anime has been finalized, with episodes premiering every Saturday at 11 PM JST on TV Tokyo beginning on July 6, 2024. In addition, a special pre-screening event will take place at the TOHO Cinemas Hibiya in Tokyo on June 29, 2024, at 4 PM JST, prior to the show’s official broadcast on TV.

The event will be attended by the voice actors of Sakuna Hime (Naomi Ozora) and Kokorowa Hime (Rika Kinugawa), as well as the director, Masayuki Yoshihira, and the Line producer, Shoji Soma.

The initial promotional video for the Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin anime highlights the immense challenges that await Sakuna, the exiled Goddess, and her companions. In addition to providing viewers with a glimpse into the anime’s distinctive universe, the trailer also offers a preview of the characters’ voices.

Previously announced, the anime will feature the voice actors from the game reprising their respective roles. Sakuna will be voiced by Naomi Ozora, Tama-Jii by Takashi Narumi, Tauemon by Ryota Yano, and Kinta by Soma Maeda.

Rika Kinugawa portrays Kokorowa Hime in the series, alongside Hikari Kubota who provides the voice for Mirute. Additionally, Aoi Koga has been selected to voice Yui, while Rika Momokawa and Riki Kagami will play the roles of Kaimaru and Ashigumo, respectively. The voice cast also includes Yuji Kameyama as Ishimaru and Miwa Kohinata as Kamuhitsuki.

The anime at P.A. Works studios is directed by Masayuki Yoshihara, with Jukki Hanada overseeing the series’ scripts. Shoji Soma is acknowledged as the Line producer. The official website has also released information about the anime’s theme songs.

Interestingly, the short PV previews both the opening theme song, Seisei, performed by the pop duo Ikimono-gakari, and the ending theme song, Origami, performed by the Little Glee Monster.

The anime adaptation of the ARPG game, Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin, centers around the tale of Sakuna, a solitary harvest goddess who is exiled to a treacherous island along with a small group of outcast humans. Driven by a desire to tame the island, Sakuna sets out on a quest to vanquish the perilous demons that inhabit it.

During this journey, she showcases her farm tools as weapons. This fantasy anime will follow Sakuna’s dangerous adventure on the island and delve into her relationships with her loved ones.
