The focus of the anime will center around Sakuna, a goddess who carries out yearly responsibilities assigned to her by Lady Kamuhitsuki, the leader of all goddesses. Sakuna is scorned by her fellow gods for presenting rice produced by her absent parents, instead of growing it herself. However, this situation takes a turn when all of her rice is destroyed in a human-caused accident, resulting in her exile to the demon realm to produce more.

Masayuki Yoshihara, known for directing popular anime such as Another, A Lull in the Sea, and Ghost in the Shell (1995), is at the helm of this new series at P.A. Works studios. Jukki Hanada oversees the scripts, adding to the anticipation surrounding the anime. While Yoshihara may not be as well-known to international anime fans, his involvement has generated significant interest in this project.
