The collaboration between the San Francisco 49ers and Dr Disrespect has come to an end, as the streamer has acknowledged that his inappropriate direct messages to a minor resulted in his Twitch ban in 2020.
A former employee of Twitch claimed on June 21 that a streamer had been banned for “s**ting a minor,”and this was immediately linked to the permanent ban of Dr Disrespect in 2020.
Initially, Doc responded by stating that there was “no wrongdoing,”but later on June 25, 2024, he admitted to being banned for inappropriately messaging a minor.
After the accusations came to light, various companies, such as his game development studio Midnight Society and gaming equipment brand Turtle Beach, ended their association with the influencer. Turtle Beach, in particular, had previously released several Doc-themed peripherals.
Some have been questioning his standing with previous companies he has collaborated with, such as Mountain Dew and the San Francisco 49ers.
Digiday contacted the major sponsors of Doc amidst the growing controversy, and the 49ers provided a response.
The publication was informed that the developments were taken seriously and there are no plans to continue working with him in the future.
In previous occasions, Doc has worked together with the San Francisco football team, including a video from August 2022 where the streamer can be seen throwing the ball at the team’s camp.
In the months prior, Doc made an appearance at the NFL Draft in Las Vegas to announce one of the team’s draft picks.
The company that released a limited-edition Cherry flavor with Dr Disrespect’s face on it, Mountain Dew, has confirmed with Digiday that they no longer collaborate with the streamer. They stated that they haven’t worked with him for some time now.
Currently, Dr Disrespect has taken an indefinite break from his YouTube streams to go on an extended vacation with his family. It is uncertain when he will return, but he has assured that he will eventually come back.
“As stated on stream, my family and I will be going on an extended vacation. I am looking forward to returning with a sense of relief and a weight lifted off my shoulders,”he shared.
