Jujutsu Kaisen is just one chapter away from concluding an exhilarating journey brimming with high-octane action. The latest installment, chapter 270, features brief appearances from various supporting characters who have been featured throughout the series. Even now, the brilliance of creator Gege Akutami is evident in the storytelling.
The title of chapter 270, “The End of the Dream“, alludes to significant earlier dialogues from Gojo Satoru in Jujutsu Kaisen.
Initially, it seemed that Gojo was expressing a desire for a future outcome that felt unattainable. Yet, the unfolding events of Jujutsu Kaisen have made that future possible, overshadowing any previous dream theories. Here’s a closer look.
Understanding Chapter 270’s Title: Gojo’s Earlier Statements in Jujutsu Kaisen
To grasp the significance of the title “The End of the Dream“, one must revisit chapter 11, titled “The Dream“. In this chapter, Gojo discusses his visions with Kiyotaka Jijichi, asserting that the true “scum”of the jujutsu world were the higher-ups, whom he deemed as “just plain idiots”, pledging to completely reset the jujutsu landscape.
Although eliminating the corrupt leaders would have been straightforward, the real challenge lay in establishing a successor. Thus, he turned his focus to education, aiming to find and nurture “strong and intelligent allies“. A key strategy in this endeavor was assigning them meaningful missions.
With recent developments, it’s clear that Gojo’s initial dream has now materialized, as illustrated by the chapter’s title. This was a reality he actively worked to create throughout the series.
Moreover, in chapter 223, Yoshinobu Gakuganji reveals to Gojo that he was responsible for Masamichi Yaga’s death, yet Gojo refrained from retaliation, recognizing the importance of keeping Yaga alive. He remarked, “You’ve changed, haven’t you, Gramps?”eventually accepting that having Gakuganji in charge might have been more beneficial.
Fast forward 269 chapters, and Gojo has successfully cultivated a new generation of potent sorcerers, including Yuji Itadori, Megumi Fushiguro, Nobara Kugisaki, Maki Zenin, and Yuta Okkotsu. The most recent chapter highlights significant decisions concerning Tengen’s barriers and the revival of reincarnated sorcerers, showcasing the profound growth of his students influenced by Gojo’s teachings.
Looking ahead, some theories suggest that the events of Jujutsu Kaisen may simply be a dream, stemming from Gojo’s cryptic remarks in chapter 236, where he encountered Suguru Geto and Kento Nanami in what appeared to be an afterlife. Gojo expressed hope that he was not dreaming—a twist that could conveniently undermine the entire story. Thus, the “Dream Theories”appear unfounded.
Instead, Gojo has transformed his ambitions into reality. Although he paid the ultimate price, the present state of the jujutsu world is promising. With Gojo’s actions leading to a reshaped Jujutsu Society and Gakuganji at the helm, the future of the new generation of sorcerers looks bright and empowered.
The status of Gojo himself remains uncertain, as Yuta has reverted to his original body without any updates on Gojo’s fate. Furthermore, the opening of chapter 270 sees Shoko Ieiri expressing her wish to only bury Geto, implying that Gojo’s situation may still hold undisclosed developments.
