Saving Treviso or Minrathous in Dragon Age: The Veilguard – Which Should You Choose?

Saving Treviso or Minrathous in Dragon Age: The Veilguard – Which Should You Choose?

Dragon Age: The Veilguard presents players with complex decisions, and one of the most challenging choices arises early in the gameplay, forcing you to decide whether to save Treviso or Minrathous.

A standout feature of Dragon Age: The Veilguard is the variety of impactful choices it offers players. Every decision, from your faction allegiance and character class to romantic pursuits and responses to events, plays a significant role in shaping the game’s conclusion. Therefore, it’s crucial to carefully weigh your options as you progress.

During the On Deadly Wings mission, you encounter a distraught crew informing you that two dragons threaten both Treviso and Minrathous. Unfortunately, time is of the essence, and you can only aid one city, requiring a critical decision on whom to save.

This decision is not straightforward, and it’s understandable if you wish to know the repercussions of each choice before committing. Here’s a breakdown of which city to rescue and the outcomes associated with both options.

The choice between Treviso and Minrathous is the first significant decision in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

From a tactical perspective, opting to save Minrathous is advisable, as doing so enhances Lucanis’s damage output while allowing you to retain Neve’s healing capabilities.

However, the ultimate decision to save Treviso or Minrathous is influenced by the player’s attachment to the involved characters, Neve and Lucanis. Additionally, it may vary depending on your character class and how much losing one of the companions affects your journey.

What Happens if You Save Treviso?

If you decide to save Treviso, you will quickly head there with Lucanis and another companion of your choice (excluding Neve) to confront the dragon.

In navigating the city, you will face the dragon, and the confrontation will only conclude when it is called away by Ghilan’nain. While the dragon is not slain, you will successfully protect the town.

Treviso will remain intact if you choose to save it.

Following the mission, the impacts will be:

  • Your relationship with Lucanis will deepen.
  • Improving your bond with Neve becomes more challenging.
  • You will lose influence over Neve’s personal quest.
  • Neve will temporarily leave your party to assist Minrathous.
  • Faction strength with the Crows will increase by 150.
  • Faction strength with the Shadow Dragons will decrease by 150.
  • Neve will gain the Hardened trait.
  • Minrathous will be left in a blighted state.

What Happens if You Save Minrathous?

Similar to the previous scenario, the dragon will withdraw thanks to Ghilan’nain’s influence, allowing you to claim victory and save the city, leading to Neve’s sincere gratitude.

If you save Treviso, Minrathous will succumb to the Blight.

Upon the dragon’s defeat, the following events will transpire:

  • Lucanis will gain the Hardened trait.
  • Your bond with Neve will strengthen.
  • Building your relationship with Lucanis will become more difficult.
  • Treviso will enter a state of blight.
  • You will lose options in Lucanis’s personal storyline.
  • Lucanis will also temporarily leave your party to assist Minrathous.
  • Your faction strength will improve by 150 with the Shadow Dragons.
  • Your faction strength will decrease by 150 with the Antivan Crows.

It is essential to note that the Hardened attribute is activated later in the game when Neve or Lucanis rejoins your party (which occurs after you recruit all companions).

What Does Hardened Mean?

The Hardened status comes into play later in the game when your companion returns.

Essentially, Hardened reflects the fallout of choosing to save the other character’s city. The companion becomes “less trusting and more self-reliant,” impacting their personality. Additionally, this also has gameplay ramifications.

In practical terms, the “damage capabilities of the companions are heightened,” enhancing their offensive spells and attacks, while they will “cease using support abilities,” meaning a healer will refrain from healing or buffing others, for instance.

Moreover, concerning romantic dynamics, “relationship progression slows down,” indicating that while love is still attainable, it may take more effort to cultivate that bond.
