SBS Revisits Late Goo Hara’s ‘Last Message’ in Secret Account Amid Her Safe Theft Case

In the most recent episode of “Unanswered Questions,”the final message left by the late Goo Hara on her private account has sparked interest among K-pop fans.

The unresolved theft case involving Goo Hara’s safe, which was featured on the investigative journalism program from SBS on June 23, sparked discussion among South Koreans and K-pop fans.

Looking back, her house was robbed fifty days after she passed away in November 2019. Initially believed to be a typical burglary, doubts arose when it was discovered that only her safe was stolen while her other valuable items remained untouched.

Consequently, SBS investigated this related case after stumbling upon a secret account belonging to the former idol. The account contained her final message before her tragic passing.

On November 24, 2019, it was reported that she had been discovered deceased at her residence in Cheongdam-dong upon her return to Korea from Japan, where she had been promoting her solo career. The day before, on November 23, she had posted her final message on her main account, saying “Good Night.”

Nevertheless, upon further investigation, it was discovered that on the 24th, she had in fact written another message on her personal account, which read as follows:

“I’m scared.”

The exclusive SNS was only accessible to her close friends, who provided her with comfort during that time. They left comments such as:

  • “You have me.”
  • “Why are you so scared? You’re an idiot. I’m always on your side. Think of us.”

Despite this, shortly thereafter, Goo Hara tragically passed away. Although only a short note was discovered at the scene, it was not a suicide note.

Goo Ho In, Hara’s elder brother, disclosed that following this, they unlocked her safe to locate her will upon learning from her aide that she had already drafted a will much earlier in preparation for unforeseen circumstances.

Regrettably, they discovered no testament.

Next, Ho In disclosed:

“(In the safe) there were letters exchanged with people, contracts, documents settled from the agency, a house registration certificate, and six cell phones.

Even if you collect cell phones in the safe, you don’t tell your acquaintances. I also do. I didn’t know (there was a cell phone).”

Ho In expressed his suspicions about the theft case.

“There were designer clothes, shoes, and watches in the dressing room on the second floor (where the safe was located). Everything else was in the same place so I didn’t even know the safe was gone. There were no signs that the house was searched, and only the safe was taken.”

Hara’s main cellphone remains locked as he is still searching for a reliable technology that can unlock it.

As news spread that Goo Hara’s safe contained cell phones, there are speculations that it may have been targeted by someone seeking information related to the Burning Sun incident.

In response to this matter, Noh Jong Eon, the legal representative of Goo Hara, stated:

“I am very cautious in saying definitively whether this cell phone has a connection with Burning Sun or not. However, I think there is a need to look back on the safe case.”

Despite 4 years having passed, the culprit responsible for the theft remains at large and there is limited information available, apart from CCTV footage revealing their identity.

After the airing of the broadcast, there have been rumors circulating that Zico, who was implicated in the “Burning Sun”scandal, may be the person responsible for the theft case.

The late Hara was specifically instrumental in aiding the journalists and police in solving the case.
