Numerous schools across various states are implementing bans on Crocs, citing concerns that these beloved clogs may contribute to student injuries from tripping and falling.
Over time, Crocs has emerged as a leading choice for slip-on footwear enjoyed by both children and adults.
However, according to a report from Bloomberg, the widespread appeal of these shoes is not without its drawbacks for students nationwide. The article highlights that numerous educational institutions in twelve different states have decided to prohibit the use of these iconic shoes due to safety concerns.
New York school nurse Oswaldo Luciano remarked in a statement to Bloomberg, “When it comes to foot injuries, the first thing people often say is, ‘I bet they were wearing Crocs.’”
The reported safety issues related to Crocs arise primarily because students frequently wear them without the strap secured behind their heels, a mode colloquially referred to online as ‘sport mode.’
Furthermore, some educational establishments cite that the clogs have created increased instances of distractions, as many students occupy themselves with their decorative charms. Additionally, there are reports of students tossing their shoes at peers.
This is not the first instance of Crocs being banned. In July 2023, players competing in CSGO were prohibited from donning these popular clogs on stage during ESL events due to updated regulations concerning team uniforms.
This was not an isolated case in esports; a League of Legends World Championship match had to be paused when a player was found to be wearing Crocs.
Over the years, Crocs has collaborated with some of the world’s most renowned brands, generating a wide range of responses on social media. In April 2024, they unveiled two new designs in partnership with Pringles, featuring a unique strap resembling the chip mascot’s distinctive mustache. A few months prior, Crocs captivated social media with the launch of Naruto-themed clogs.
