SEAL Team Season 7 Episode 7 Finale Explained: Unpacking the Ending

The episode “Mission Creep” in SEAL Team season 7 is marked by themes of self-destruction, as characters Jason, Ray, and Drew take actions that hinder their personal development and regress from the progress they have made throughout their story arcs.

As the seventh and final season of Benjamin Cavell’s Paramount+ military drama approaches its finale, there are only a few episodes left. The series is currently airing, and with SEAL Team concluding, it seems the narrative is steering its characters to confront their lowest points in anticipation of bright and satisfying resolutions.

From the very beginning of SEAL Team season seven, David Boreanaz’s character Jason has faced significant challenges. As each episode progresses, Mikey’s traumatic brain injury worsens, compounded by his near-death experiences. Meanwhile, Ray, sensing his imminent departure from Bravo, grapples with the weight of retirement.

At the same time, Drew and the enigma surrounding his family remain unsettling, although recent developments in episode 7 have surfaced some crucial details. It becomes apparent that in season 7, episode 7, the members of SEAL Team are collectively facing their struggles.

In SEAL Team season 7, episode 7, Bravo returns home after reluctantly releasing Jun Yilin, a fentanyl precursor magnate affiliated with the Chinese criminal syndicate Sai Lou. However, the operation to establish a connection between China and the drug trade continues. During a prior mission, Bravo uncovered a new route: Honduras, from where additional barrels of fentanyl precursor had been shipped to Mexico.

Lieutenant Davis learns that China is leveraging Ramone Nazario, a former colonel in the Honduran Special Forces, for illicit activities. In return, Nazario’s plans to destabilize the Honduran government are financed by China through illicit drug deals. Consequently, Command sends Bravo and Davis to Honduras to trace the connection between China and Nazario.

Upon arrival, the SEALs execute raids on drug-related targets but uncover no leads. However, after episode 7 of season 7, the SEAL Team characters stumble upon millions of dollars concealed within the walls of a stash house and set the cash ablaze to draw out their adversaries.

Ben makes his reappearance in SEAL Team season 7, episode 7, when Sonny brings him to Spenser House. Ben bears the weight of responsibility for Clay’s death from season 6, and Ray is visibly unsettled upon encountering him.

Despite Ben’s attempts to rehabilitate his life and Sonny’s efforts to support him, Ray’s animosity towards Ben persists, resulting in Ben’s expulsion from Spenser House. This conflict leaves Ray feeling disappointed in himself and confuses Naima about the situation.

Ray’s frustrations, however, go deeper than just his interaction with Ben in episode 7. Following a perilous mission in Malaysia in episode 6, Ray is uncertain about his retirement plans and expresses to Naima that he feels he’s abandoning his comrades.

Despite Jason suggesting that Ray may skip the Honduras mission due to his nearing retirement, Ray decides to accompany Bravo. This decision could signify that Ray’s confrontation with Ben has strengthened his commitment to sticking with the team.

The Reason Behind Drew’s Absence After Kissing Chelsea

In the seventh episode, Chelsea, the journalist, returns to continue her interview with Drew. The audience learns that Drew faced abandonment at age twelve when his mother moved to France, leaving him and his family behind.

In a pivotal moment in Drew’s van, he unexpectedly kisses Chelsea. Mirroring the self-destructive pathways of Jason and Ray in “Mission Creep,”Drew is met with regret as Chelsea quickly claims it was a mistake before leaving.

Episode 7 of SEAL Team indicates Drew’s absence from Bravo’s meeting at Command. Sonny and Omar find him intoxicated in his van, cautioning him about the severe consequences of isolating himself from Bravo.

Fortunately, Drew chooses to board the aircraft to Honduras with the team. Thanks to Sonny and Omar’s encouragement, he regains his motivation to return to Bravo, although his relationship with Chelsea remains unresolved.

In the opening scene of SEAL Team season 7, episode 7, Admiral Rivas discusses future plans with Davis, revealing a potential promotion at the Pentagon. He expresses the desire for Davis to be by his side if this opportunity materializes.

Needless to say, Davis is thrilled about the prospect. His contributions throughout season 7 have earned admiration from Rivas, who values her success alongside Davis. However, following a conversation with Blackburn, Davis’s enthusiasm begins to fade.

When explaining to Blackburn how significant the promotion would be for her career, Davis convinces her that it is a “career-maker.” Unfortunately, Blackburn appears indifferent about discussing Davis’s possible Pentagon role and asks him to shut the office door before they can have a deeper discussion.

Blackburn and Davis hold an off-screen discussion, leaving unclear why Blackburn seems uninterested in the promotion. Davis might encounter obstacles in his journey to the Pentagon, or Rivas could have had a change of heart about her partnership. SEAL Team season 7 fans will need to wait for the next episode to see how Davis’s plans with the military unfold.

During a deployment, Jason made the difficult decision to leave Bravo and return home in SEAL Team season 7, episode 5, believing that supporting Mikey would demonstrate that a balance between family and career was possible.

However, after Mikey’s accidental overdose in episode 6, Jason now feels that his place is with Bravo, not at home with Mandy and his children. Consequently, in SEAL Team season 7, episode 7, Jason embarks on a path of self-destruction exacerbated by haunting nightmares of his first kill.

Jason’s focus shifts entirely to Bravo’s next mission, leading him to push away Emma, Mikey, and Mandy. He struggles with his identity, feeling that if he’s not Bravo 1, he’s lost, compelled to look ahead instead of dwelling in the past.

Captain Walch and Commander Blackburn even offer Jason a different role, involving him in TBI treatment options and the advancement of addressing the epidemic. Despite this, Jason resists the notion, asserting that “carrying a rifle” is how he makes a real difference.
