The Warzone Season 6 update introduces a significant number of weapon balancing adjustments, including a substantial nerf to what many consider the game’s most powerful firearm.
Since its reintroduction at the beginning of Season 5, the STG44 has dominated the Warzone landscape. This highly regarded WWII Assault Rifle quickly rose to prominence within the long-range meta and has remained a favored choice due to its outstanding TTK (Time To Kill) and minimal recoil.
The developers are clearly aware of the overwhelming strength of the STG44, leading to a major nerf during Season 5 Reloaded. However, this initial adjustment had minimal effect on its effectiveness, prompting another round of changes in the Season 6 update.
Following the reduction in damage from Season 5 Reloaded, the Assault Rifle’s effective range has now been modified to achieve a more balanced experience in combat. Its maximum damage range has been cut from 36.83 meters down to 27.94 meters, while the near-mid damage range has decreased by nearly eight meters.
The STG44 has been featured in various COD titles over the years.
In addition to range adjustments, the STG44’s damage modifiers have also been modified. The damage bonuses for both lower torso and arm or hand shots have been reduced from 1.3x to 1.15x.
While this change might not significantly affect the weapon’s performance—especially for skilled players who consistently aim for head and upper body shots—it implies that the TTK will increase if key targets are missed. Furthermore, with the drastic reduction in its damage range, the STG44 will struggle to compete at longer distances, allowing other rifles or LMGs to achieve kills more swiftly.
It remains to be seen how these adjustments will shape the Warzone meta going forward. With numerous buffs and nerfs to consider, in addition to new weapons such as the DTIR 30-06 and Kastov LSW, players will have to adapt.
