The recently released League of Legends Patch 14.17 includes a concealed alteration to Kai’Sa, aimed at enhancing her AP builds and pushing the champion towards a new direction.
The team at Riot Games is currently in the process of developing Patch 14.17 for League of Legends. This upcoming update will feature nerfs for jungle champions such as Brand and Lillia, who have become overly dominant due to the power of jungle items Fated Ashes and Blackfire Torch.
Despite this, the developers have not yet documented a recent change that includes a significant overhaul of the ADC Kai’Sa.
Currently, the focus is on enhancing the impact of her evolved W, allowing for a wider range of builds for her full AP assassin playstyle.
The upcoming update on the PBE will target Kai’Sa, allowing her W to travel through multiple targets and deal damage to each one. This enhancement greatly amplifies the ability’s effectiveness, as it enables her to effortlessly cut through entire enemy teams with her powerful spells.
After evolving her W, she will only be able to access this version of it if she has at least 100 ability power. However, this increase in power comes with a drawback, as its previous effect of reducing cooldown will no longer be available.
For Kai’Sa, this can be viewed as both advantageous and disadvantageous. It transitions her away from consistently using AP poke builds and towards a riskier, high-damage burst playstyle. At present, she is being utilized as a hybrid ADC, with popular items including Guinsoo’s Rageblade and Nashor’s Tooth.
The adjustment to her W could potentially bring AP Kai’sa back into the spotlight, as it was a favored choice for mid-lane before it received a nerf.
While these changes are currently undocumented and only available on the PBE, it is possible that they may not be implemented on the live servers. However, this also opens the potential for Riot to continue experimenting with Kai’Sa’s builds in the future.
