On the 18th, HYBE announced the outcome of their legal action against individuals who unlawfully sold flight information of artists under the company on their official website.
The complete statement from HYBE is as follows:
We have been working closely with investigative authorities for several months since the latter half of last year in regards to the illegal acquisition and sale of HYBE Labels artists’ flight information. We would like to update you on the outcome of our legal actions.
The buying or selling of illegally obtained flight information of artists is a blatant violation of the law that puts their safety at risk and causes them undue distress. Unfortunately, there has been a rise in incidents of individuals repeatedly obtaining unauthorized access to seat information or boarding the same flight in order to secretly film. This behavior can be classified as stalking, as these individuals continuously approach the artists and even attempt to make contact. Additionally, there have been numerous instances of individuals purposely changing seats and canceling flight reservations in order to disrupt the artists’ schedules.
We have concluded that these actions present significant issues that not only violate the privacy of artists but also jeopardize their well-being and can lead to incidents at airports and on flights. As a result, we established a dedicated task force in September of last year to safeguard our artists from the illegal trade of flight information and eliminate such unlawful behavior.
Prior to initiating legal proceedings for the violation of personal information, we gathered evidence against multiple SNS accounts that were illegally selling artists’ flight information. We then proceeded to submit complaints to investigative agencies, citing violations of the Personal Information Protection Act, and fully assisted with the investigation.
The accused individuals are alleged to have exchanged artist flight information on social media platforms for an extended period of time, resulting in criminal gains ranging from tens of millions to hundreds of millions of won.
We intend to fully collaborate with the investigative agencies’ ongoing investigations and any future legal proceedings.
We have also examined relevant protocols and systems and sought the cooperation of airlines and travel agencies to safeguard the personal information of our artists and prevent any further breaches. We remain dedicated to collaborating closely with various organizations in order to ensure the protection of our artists’ personal information.
“Many thanks.”
