Following his announcement of participation in a “Burning Sun”event in Indonesia, Seungri issued an official statement addressing the allegations and other matters surrounding BIGBANG member G-Dragon.
An Indonesian event promoter released “Burning Sun Surabaya”posters on August 8, promoting it as a K-pop party night. The event is scheduled to take place at a gentleman’s club on the 31st and will feature Seungri as its “Best Honor.”
Upon the spread of this news to both K-netz and international fandoms, the event became a subject of controversy.

The event was named after both the controversial nightclub where sexual crimes took place and Seungri himself, who was recently released from prison for his involvement, was listed as an attendee.
Some of the comments left by netizens were:
- “There’s no sign of reflection at all.”
- “You have no conscience.”
In an interview, Seungri responded to these allegations by stating that he would pursue legal action.

“(After my release from prison), I’ve spent a lot of time with my family and have lived an ordinary life. I will remain quiet so that people won’t get tired of stories related to me any longer.”
During the interview, Seungri expressed his apologies to G-Dragon from BIGBANG. Seungri’s name was brought up when he attended a party at a club in Phnom Penh, Cambodia in January.
Previously, he had stated his plans to one day bring G-Dragon to the country. However, upon reflection, the former star made the following statement:
“I got drunk on the atmosphere and didn’t behave well. It was wrong and I won’t do it again.”
Seungri clarified initial reports about him opening a club in Hong Kong by stating:
“That’s completely false. I’ve never thought about it or planned it. I have absolutely no intention of doing any club-related business, not now, nor in the future.”
Seungri, a former member of the group BIGBANG, which debuted in 2006 and was often hailed as the “Kings of K-pop,”gained fame as a K-pop idol. However, his career came to an end in 2019 after he departed from the group due to his involvement in the Burning Sun scandal.
This scandal revolved around a South Korean nightclub where multiple sexual offenses occurred. Seungri was singled out as a prominent figure in the scandal.
In addition, he was part of a KakaoTalk group conversation initiated by Jung Joon Young, in which participants exchanged “molka”(illegally recorded videos) of individuals they had filmed while they were intoxicated.
Seungri faced a trial on nine counts, which included soliciting prostitution, misappropriation of funds, and inciting aggravated assault.
In February 2023, Seungri was released from Yeoju Prison in Gyeonggi Province after serving 9 months of his 1 year and 6 month prison sentence, which was confirmed by the Supreme Court in May 2022.
