The release of a new BBC documentary has reignited the discussion surrounding the controversial “Burning Sun”scandal. Among the main figures involved is former BIGBANG member Seungri, who has gained further attention due to reports of his relocation to Hong Kong and plans to open a nightclub there.
According to several articles, Seungri has been accused of exploiting Hong Kong’s visa policy, which permits individuals with specific skills and abilities to permanently reside in the country.
Despite this, the Hong Kong Government has recently issued an official statement denying the aforementioned claims.
The complete statement in English is provided below:
“The HKSAR Government has released a statement clarifying media reports about the former Korean artist’s visit to Hong Kong.”
Regarding recent media coverage of a former Korean artist who expressed interest in relocating to Hong Kong and the talent admission schemes offered by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government, a spokesperson for the HKSAR Government stated today (May 23) that no visa application has been received from the individual for any talent admission schemes. The relevant government departments will adhere to the established procedure and carefully consider all applications for talent admission schemes to ensure that only eligible individuals are approved.
Currently, citizens of South Korea are permitted to enter Hong Kong without a visa for a period of up to 90 days.
It appears that Seungri will not be able to take advantage of the special visa policy to relocate. Nevertheless, it is still uncertain as to whether he will open a nightclub in Hong Kong or find alternate ways to relocate.
The source of the information is from HKSAR and Nate.
