SEVENTEEN Fan’s Criticism of Haechan Sparks Online Debate – Think Before You Tweet

During a recent episode of NCT’s Muk2U, which is a YouTube series hosted by Doyoung and Haechan, SEVENTEEN members Seungkwan and Jeonghan unexpectedly appeared, showcasing a stronger bond between the two groups than what fans had expected.

Despite the joy felt by fans at seeing the camaraderie between members of SEVENTEEN and NCT, a post from a well-known SEVENTEEN fan page caused controversy on the internet.

“There’s nothing really set so I guess the two of them kept trying to keep the conversation going. Also CARATs (myself included) are used to a more clean and structured hosting style…Lolol but the last ten minutes wasn’t that bad, right? I guess I need to at least make this part meaningful. But Haechan, why did you come on the show? I, too, will write a hate comment.”

The post, which received negative comments about Haechan’s involvement in the show, caused an uproar among fans of both groups.

Despite being known as hae22, the fan account faced backlash for its unfavorable comments towards Haechan. Fans were disappointed by the account’s decision to publicly display negativity towards the artist.

The remarks made were seen as unnecessary and disrespectful, especially considering the show’s collaborative atmosphere. In response to the criticism, hae22 released a statement of apology online, acknowledging the harm caused by their comments and expressing regret for their behavior.

I wish to extend my sincerest apologies for the thoughtless comments I made during my recent interaction on social media. While watching the NCT’s Muktuyu content uploaded yesterday, I was chatting with a mutual who uses a private account, and I left a tweet containing something hurtful to the hc fans and the singer by mentioning [I’m also leaving a bad tweet: Why is ㅎㅊ there?], and I apologize for these inconsiderate words to Ha*chan and his fans. I sincerely do. When I said ‘also’ in the context, it wasn’t a bad comment from a friend I was talking to, but rather an inadvertent comment I made by playfully imitating something that ended up going with the ‘why did you even come out’ tone. After I reflected on it I realized it was crossing the line. Although the tweet didn’t mention hc’s full name but only initials, I assume it was possible to guess who it was from the circumstances, so I think fans who were searching by initials got very upset. I sincerely apologize for this whole mistake I’ve made. I now fully realize I should have been more thoughtful and considerate in this public space. Again, I am sorry for Ha*chan and his fans. If I may, however, if you type in and search my account name, you’ll find countless death threats, suicide calls, and unspeakable language. I’ll be careful not to let anything bad happen again, so I hope you’ll accept my insufficient apology and halt the personal attacks and violent insults to my family. (To those HC fans who have reached out with kindness and understanding, I am genuinely grateful. Your willingness to educate me has not gone unnoticed, and I am committed to learning from this experience. Please accept my assurance that I will exercise greater sensitivity and thoughtfulness in my interactions moving forward.) Thank you for taking the time to read this message.

Despite the apology, some NCT fans still felt that it lacked sincerity and criticized the account for not fully taking responsibility for their words.

BELOW ARE A FEW REMARKS FROM THE FANS:

Honestly, there was no need to mention it in that way from the beginning…ㅋㅋ I’m not saying that justifies death threats or anything, but please think before you tweet. It might be a bit nerdy to some extent…

If you’re a big name, please think a bit In the first place, these are words that wouldn’t have been heard if they hadn’t been mentioned~

I don’t understand Just try to think from the opposite perspective

Please think before you tweet

You even added excuses in your apology letter.

In light of the continuous backlash, hae22 released a second apology, this time providing a more formal and thorough account of their actions.

Despite efforts to address the issue, there was still a split among fans, with some doubting the genuineness of the apology while others demanded responsibility to be taken.

The recent controversy has sparked renewed debates about the accountability of fan accounts and the influence of online interactions within the world of K-pop.

Despite the inevitability of disagreements and differing opinions, fans stress the crucial need to cultivate a respectful and encouraging atmosphere for both idols and fellow fans.

As the conversation progresses, supporters of both SEVENTEEN and NCT remain hopeful for a resolution that encourages comprehension and mutual regard between fandoms, emphasizing the importance of unity and solidarity within the K-pop community.
