The spring festival “ESPERO: BEAT”was held by Hanyang University on May 28 and 29, featuring performances from Choi Yena, Nell, SEVENTEEN’s BSS, and Cravity on Day 2.
In addition, the student council of Hanyang University has announced that the entrance barricade for the festival will open at 2 AM on May 29th. Those who arrive early will be given queuing numbers.
Despite numerous complaints from students and festival-goers, it was reported that at approximately 7:30 AM (KST) on the same day, multiple posts began to surface on social media. These posts claimed that individuals in line were not permitted to use the bathroom and were instead forced to go to the end of the queue. Furthermore, the organizers prohibited those waiting in line from sharing water to quench their thirst.
Despite complaints from students and festival-goers, Hanyang University defended their actions by stating that they were following SEVENTEEN’s request, essentially implying that the boy group was using their power to their advantage.
On the same day at noon, a post was published on the fan community Weverse by a member of SEVENTEEN, Hoshi, stating that it is important to take bathroom breaks and stay hydrated. This effectively refuted the accusation made by Hanyang University.
“As we are currently in the midst of a group schedule, we will make sure to finish it promptly in order to meet you all (at Hanyang University). Please bear with us for a little longer! Hoshi also expressed his gratitude and love for you all.”
Despite Hanyang University’s attempt to shift blame onto idols for their poor organization, many fans and members of the public remain outraged. Netizens have expressed their frustration with the university’s actions through the following comments:
- They even said that SEVENTEEN told them to ban water and leaving to go to the bathroom? That’s such vicious behavior. Now that the idols themselves have spoken up, I wonder what the university is planning to say this time
- Wow are they idiots? Do they want to be sued? Why would they blame the singers lieke that?
- There were even posts about the organizers searching through belongings and dumping the belongings in unsupervised areas. Hanyang is truly trash
- Act quickly and apologize, Hanyang University
- The student council got way too into their heads.. What they did was power abuse and then they tried to put the blame on singers. Shitty people.
