Severance fans have reason to celebrate as the first teaser for Season 2 has been released. However, could there be a hidden significance behind the appearance of those balloons?
Apple TV+ may have just hinted that the highly anticipated return of one of the most popular TV shows in recent years is closer than expected, bringing excitement to those who have been patiently waiting.
The streaming service’s ‘Coming Soon’ teaser featured clips from Severance Season 2, and although they were short, viewers are certain that there is a significant Easter egg hidden in plain sight.
Mark (Adam Scott) enters through the elevator doors and puts on his lanyard, where he is then greeted by Milchick (Tramell Tillman) holding a bunch of balloons. Milchick then says, “Welcome back, it’s been a while.”
These balloons have created speculation among fans about their potential meaning, with some already forming their own theories.
“One fan expressed on X/Twitter in response to the teaser that the blue balloons symbolize the character’s new beginning and his lack of knowledge about his past.”
As mentioned in the post, blue is often associated with feelings of security, confidence, and peacefulness. However, it can also allude to the well-known phrase “out of the blue,”indicating that something unexpected may occur.
When Mark was last seen, he had discovered a photo that confirmed Ms. Casey’s true identity as Gemma. Although he tried to inform Devon, all he could manage to say was “She’s alive!”before Milchick intervened and stopped Dylan from activating the overtime contingency. As a result, the three of them reverted back to their original state.
It is logical to conclude that Severance Season 2 will start with a clean slate for Mark, as he will have no recollection of the events that occurred in Season 1.
“One fan also pointed out that it seems like Mark is being manipulated into forgetting everything that occurred in Season 1. This could explain why he screams ‘wait’ in the elevator. Additionally, the fan noticed that the way Mark is positioned on the table is reminiscent of Helly’s position, but on his back. They also observed that Mark’s clothing is different from when he first arrived in Lumon, further hinting at possible manipulation.”
Despite this, some fans have observed that there may be even more to the balloons as they also feature Mark’s face. Later, he can be seen carrying them down the notorious fluorescent hallways.
In the social media post accompanying Apple TV+, fans are also informed that “Your innie has already seen this image,”possibly suggesting that the balloons could be used to trigger Mark’s memories before he was reverted.
It can be inferred from the inclusion of Severance Season 2 in the presentations that fans may possibly expect new episodes to be released sometime this year. And once the episodes are released, there will be numerous unanswered questions that they may address.
