Despite receiving praise from Naruto and Boruto creator Masashi Kishimoto upon the release of Kagurabachi Volume 3, the Takeru Hokazono series, unfortunately, faced backlash at Japan Expo 2024 in France when the publisher, Dark Kana, made an announcement that received a lot of criticism.
Despite the unfortunate circumstances, Kana had already confirmed the attendance of Masashi Kishimoto and Miki Ikemoto at their event in France in August. As a result, fans expressed their desire for the creators of Naruto and Boruto to not give the publisher any attention by appearing at the event.
The Controversy Surrounding Kana’s Disrespect towards Naruto Creator Masashi Kishimoto in France
For those who may not know, Kana is a publisher of French manga. They appeared to have successfully brought Masashi Kishimoto and Mikio Ikemoto, creators of Naruto and Boruto, to their event in France in August 2024.
Therefore, a large number of banners were displayed at Japan Expo 2024 to advertise the series. Additionally, the company had plans to promote the Kagurabachi manga series, which they had recently acquired and were planning to launch in France in February 2025.
Kana placed the banners for the Takeru Hokazono series directly above the banners for the Naruto and Boruto series, unintentionally causing offense to fans of Mashashi Kishimoto’s works. Although the company did not intend to be disrespectful, fans perceived it differently.
Reactions to the Kagurabachi Banner Placements
Despite inviting the creators to the Kana event in August, fans were outraged at the way Kana treated Masashi Kishimoto and Mikio Ikemoto’s works at the Japan Expo 2024. The publishing company’s decision to cover up their series with Kagurabachi banners was seen as a blatant disrespect towards the creators and their works.
Did you really think that was a good idea? Kishimoto disrespect is crazy, one fan said.
“Lmao we rather not getting new interview than disrespect the two people you guys wanna invite just for “that”,”another said.
Despite some fans attempting to remain rational, they acknowledged that Kana could have handled the situation more effectively. They suggested that the banners could have been placed in a different location or the Kishimoto and Ikemoto series banners could have been taken down before displaying the Kagurabachi banners. However, completely covering them up was not a viable option.
Several other fans noted that Kishimoto had recently endorsed the Kagurabachi series to his readers. Therefore, there was no need to treat the manga creator’s work in such a disrespectful manner.
“This is plain disrespectful NGL it could have been placed elsewhere or better still remove the Naruto and Boruto banner before putting it,”another fan said.
“That was unnecessary.. to cover the banner like that, whats the goal? The new volume just getting a recommendation by Kishimoto himself. Well its not Bachis fans or the author’s fault. Its people behind the scenes that come up with something like that..,”other fan said.
“I hope Kagurabachi gets axed one day and that Kishimoto never gives you people a second of his time,”other said.
This incident merely prompted Naruto fans to target the Takeru Hokazono series, despite neither he nor his fans being responsible.
Despite some fans targeting the Kagurabachi manga series and hoping for the eventual cancellation of the Takeru Hokazono series, they also expressed their desire for Kishimoto to not go to France in response to Kana’s actions.
