This conflict reportedly stems from disagreements between major fan unions that advocate for SHINee’s collective endeavors and those who support individual members. The situation escalated into personal attacks against Onew, reviving discussions around a controversy he faced in 2017.

To provide some background, Onew, SHINee’s leader, was embroiled in controversy in August 2017 due to allegations of sexual harassment during a night out in Gangnam. Reports suggested that he had allegedly touched a woman’s legs multiple times, but he claimed it was a misinterpretation, having mistaken the woman’s legs for a pole while trying to regain his balance after consuming alcohol.

SM Entertainment intervened, stating that it was indeed a misunderstanding, and the police subsequently categorized the case as non-prosecutable without a detention.

Following the incident, Onew expressed his apologies to both the woman and the fandom.

Despite these developments, a segment of fans distanced themselves from Onew, opting to support the group minus him. The backlash against him only worsened, especially following an incident when Korean BRIIZE fans managed to force Seunghan out of RIIZE through bullying, accompanied by the sending of over 1,000 funeral wreaths.

According to reports on X, these same fans are now proposing votes to decide on sending similar funeral wreaths to their agencies.
