After making her debut in 2012, Shin Hye-sun gained momentum in her career with her first leading role in the 2017 drama “My Golden Life” . This followed by a rise in popularity and numerous advertising offers, cementing Shin Hye-sun’s position as a leading actress.
With her stable acting skills, unique tone, clean and sophisticated image, and height of over 170cm, Shin Hye-sun was equipped to take on a wide variety of roles. She fully immersed herself in each character, effortlessly portraying double roles and captivating audiences with her charming presence.
Despite the rise in viewership ratings and achieving a peak rating of 44.6% (according to Nielsen Korea) for several dramas, Shin Hye-sun has also gained recognition for her topicality. In 2020, she further broadened her range of work by taking on roles in movies.
Despite her success in dramas, Shin Hye-sun’s films “Innocence”and “Collectors”did not fare as well at the box office in 2020, with 890,000 and 1.54 million viewers respectively.
The movie industry saw even more disappointing box office results in 2023. “Don’t Buy the Seller”managed to draw in 420,000 viewers, while “Brave Citizen”only reached 260,000 viewers. While it may be unfair to solely measure a film’s success by its audience numbers, it’s difficult to deny its failure when it doesn’t even reach one-fifth of its break-even point.
Although the success of a movie cannot be solely attributed to the lead actor, the actor’s future endeavors are greatly influenced by audience numbers.
Shin Hye-sun confidently attended the movie “She Died” press conference on April 17th. This marked her first venture into the mystery tracking thriller genre since her debut, where she took on the lead role alongside Byun Yo-han.
What can we expect from Shin Hye-sun’s new movie, “She Died”? It will be interesting to see if she will gain more recognition as a versatile actress after surpassing her previous works, or if she will continue to be primarily known for her roles in dramas and face challenges in the film industry. The release of Shin Hye-sun’s movie is set for May.
