On December 20, The Present Company, the management agency of actress Shin Se-kyung, announced the arrest of an individual accused of persistent cyber harassment. This marked a significant development in a case that had involved multiple instances of online abuse over several years.
The agency detailed, “The perpetrator engaged in a series of alarming actions, including threats, malicious slander, dissemination of false information, and abusive remarks directed not only at Shin Se-kyung but also at her fans, family, and close acquaintances. These behaviors inflicted substantial psychological harm. Now, the perpetrator is facing the consequences of their illegal actions through appropriate legal channels.”
To ensure thorough handling of the situation, The Present Company collaborated with legal representatives from the firm Ascendant Yoolbon, forming a specialized task force dedicated to addressing the harassment. The agency reaffirmed its commitment, stating, “We will pursue all necessary legal actions to safeguard our artists and staff. It’s imperative to underline that similar offenses will prompt rigorous and unwavering responses.”
In response to the increasing concern regarding online abuse, The Present Company highlighted the troubling nature of cyber harassment, which often thrives on the anonymity that the internet provides. The agency expressed hope that this arrest would serve as a catalyst for fostering a more responsible and supportive online environment.
Kim Ji-ae, an attorney from Ascendant Yoolbon, remarked on the ongoing investigation, saying, “We are actively overseeing the proceedings alongside the agency to prevent further occurrences and ensure the victim’s protection. This case aims to shed light on the reality that malicious online activities are detectable and can lead to legal repercussions.”
Shin Se-kyung, now 34, has continued to build her career, having recently starred in the tvN series “Captivating the King” from January to March of this year. Following the conclusion of her contract with EDAM Entertainment, she joined The Present Company in July and is currently preparing for her return to cinema in the upcoming film “Humint.”
