SHINee Key Addresses Accusations of Body-Shaming Park Narae

After Key made a certain remark to his co-MC Park Narae on “I Live Alone,”some Shawols are questioning his stance on fat acceptance.

On June 23, a Shawol (fan of SHINee) took to X to express their disappointment after watching a recent episode of MBC’s “I Live Alone,”according to an internet user.

Despite sharing her weight loss journey in the snippet, Park Narae ultimately decided to indulge in a cheat day and savor delicious meals after a day of shopping.

During the video, the cast members were observed watching and responding to Narae’s comment when the comedienne made it.

“Can diet food be this good?”

Despite its intention to be a positive and inspiring experience for other plus-size viewers on the same journey as Narae, the episode took a troubling turn when the other hosts began to mock and ridicule her.

Jun Hyun Moo proceeded to joke with her by “correcting”her.

“More like, ‘Are you allowed to eat this much?”

Key’s words elicited a chorus of laughter from the entire studio.

“No wonder you’re not losing any more weight.”

The OP’s statement ignited a heated discussion, which had been delayed until now.

“This is not funny?”

The video caught the attention of many Shawols, eliciting mixed reactions from them.

After witnessing this scene, certain fans accused Key of being blatantly fatphobic and were hurt, especially considering he has plus-size fans.

Despite being labeled as “haters”by certain netizens, they clarified that their intentions were not to spread hate but rather to educate. As SHINee is a widely recognized group with a large global following, they understand the importance of being mindful with their choice of words.

However, there were also those who stood up for Key and reprimanded those who criticized him without understanding the full context. They clarified that the official translation was too straightforward and made it seem like Key was personally attacking Park Narae for her weight.

Despite hearing his comment in Korean, he implied that Narae had said it to herself before. This reminded him of her previous statement.

In the same episode, a different fan pointed out that it was actually Key who was encouraging Narae to embrace her figure.

At the same time, Key will release his Japanese single, “Tongue Tied,”on June 26, followed by the MV on July 3 and the physical album on August 7.
