During a recent interview with Newsen, SHINee’s Taemin briefly touched upon the reason behind his departure from SM Entertainment.
On April 24, the K-media outlet published an article featuring an interview with the “Prince of K-pop.”In the interview, he expressed his intention to switch labels and discussed his desire to prioritize his solo career while also continuing to promote as a member of SHINee.
Why Taemin Left SM Entertainment: SHINee Member Shares His Reasons
In 2008, Lee Taemin made his debut as the main dancer of SHINee, a group formed by SM Entertainment. After 16 years of working with the label, he surprised the entertainment industry by announcing his departure from SM and his decision to sign an exclusive contract with Big Planet Made (BPM).

Despite various speculations surrounding his departure from the company, Taemin briefly addressed the issue in an interview with Newsen, stating:
“I wanted to be Taemin, the unchanging artist no matter where I am, so I wanted to take on a new challenge in a new place. I will work hard to show a good side of me.”
Taemin’s Distinction Between Being a Member of SHINee and a Solo Artist
In 2008, SHINee’s songs such as “Replay,””Ring Ding Dong,””Sherlock,””Dream Girl,”and more received a lot of love, helping Taemin gain recognition. Despite being experimental, SHINee’s distinctive style and sound played a significant role in their rising fame.
In 2014, Lee Taemin made his debut as a solo artist and gained recognition with his popular songs such as “MOVE,””Criminal,”and “Guilty,”which showcased a distinct style from his work with the group.
In regards to his accomplishments as both a solo artist and a member of SHINee, he made a clear distinction between his two roles as an artist and elaborated on this distinction:
“SHINee Taemin focuses on being ‘together’ by gathering opinions with the other members.
Meanwhile, as a solo artist, Taemin is in the process of incorporating all directions that I want to go in, from various performances to songs.”
SHINee Taemin: Upcoming Projects and Performances
On April 10, the “WANT”singer was present at the 2024 ASEA ceremony in Japan, where he was honored with two awards for “ASEA THE BEST PERFORMANCE”and “ASEA THE BEST CONCEPTUAL ARTIST.”

During his interview with the media, Taemin expressed his gratitude to fans and promised them more activities in the future.
“I am grateful to have been able to receive love for such a long time, and I will show a good performance as always. I am truly grateful for giving me such a valuable award.
Moving forward, I will continue to strive to become an artist who can better inspire and influence so that I can repay the support and love from my fans.”

In May 24 to 26 of this year, SHINee will celebrate the 16th anniversary of their debut with a concert titled “SHINee WORLD VI [PERFECT ILLUMINATION: SHINee’S BACK],”the group to which Taemin belongs.
The encore concert, spanning 3 days, will take place at Incheon’s Inspire Arena and provide an opportunity for Shawols around the globe to come together.
