Fortnite’s collaboration with Cyberpunk 2077 has taken an unexpected turn, as players are expressing their shock over a particular skin due to its controversial background.
This crossover promises a variety of items inspired by the acclaimed RPG, including character skins for both female V and Johnny Silverhand. As is customary for character skins, each will be accompanied by distinct backbling. Players choosing to purchase V can look forward to her sporting a Flathead drone on her back.
However, the backbling associated with Johnny Silverhand has sparked controversy among fans, particularly considering its context within the narrative of Cyberpunk 2077.
Fan Reactions to Johnny Silverhand’s Backbling in Fortnite
Previously, leakers in the Fortnite community hinted at Johnny Silverhand’s backbling simply being tagged as a “Travel backbling.”Recent leaks, however, have unveiled that this item is none other than the nuclear device used by Johnny and his crew to destroy the Arasaka Tower in the game.
An observant fan highlighted this reality in response to a tweet from prominent leaker HYPEX, stating, “Damn, they’re selling the bomb that blew up corporate greed, crazy.”

In another tweet, a fan echoed this sentiment, arguing that incorporating the Arasaka bomb as backbling is akin to adding a plane associated with a historical tragedy as a glider in Fortnite. This comparison has intensified discussions around the appropriateness of such an item within the game’s lighthearted context.
Amidst the discussion, another Twitter user humorously cautioned, “No one let Johnny near Seaport City with that backbling…” pointing out the inherent irony.
Many feel that the choice to feature a nuclear bomb as backbling is perplexing, especially considering there were plenty of suitable alternatives. For instance, Johnny Silverhand’s guitar would have been a fitting asset, particularly as it is slated for use in Jam Tracks and the Fortnite Festival mode.
The Fortnite x Cyberpunk 2077 collaboration is set to officially launch on Monday, December 23, promising fans a unique blend of the two vastly different worlds.
