Short-Lived PlayStation Shooter Concord Shut Down Due to Lack of Players

After a mediocre launch on August 23, resulting in a significantly low number of players, PlayStation has revealed that Concord will be shutting down just two weeks after its release.

On the PlayStation blog, Game Director Ryan Ellis from Firewalk Studios announced that Concord will be taken offline beginning on September 6th.

Despite having a successful Open Beta with a peak of 2,388 concurrent players, the launch of this PS5 hero shooter saw a significant decrease in users, with only 700 players and a sharp decline to around 50 concurrent players in the days that followed.

Ellis further elaborated on the team’s plans to consider various options in order to better connect with their players, suggesting that Concord may not be completely doomed in the long term.

Furthermore, the discontinuation of Concord sales will take effect immediately and individuals who have previously purchased it on PS5 or PC will have the option to receive a refund. The post also provided specific instructions for players to obtain a refund based on their chosen storefront.

This announcement comes just 10 days after the game’s release, making it one of the shortest times for a AAA game to announce its shutdown.

Despite the fact that Concord’s downfall is largely attributed to its low number of players and high price of $40, there were also other criticisms from the audience regarding the game’s character designs being deemed as the “ugliest”ever.

Regardless of their fandom, individuals are shocked by the rapidity of Concord’s online shutdown. Despite PlayStation’s decision to disable comments on their post regarding the shutdown, other discussions about it still took place on X.

“After 8 years of hard work, it’s all gone in an instant,”a person commented in response to the news on the post.

One individual referred to it as “embarrassing”and elaborated on how it was not unexpected given the game’s lack of appeal to players.

Despite initial doubts and even skepticism from loyal fans, the online shooter game released by PlayStation was not expected to have staying power. However, the sudden closure of the game is still unexpected.
