Shroud Declares Overwatch Superior to Marvel Rivals: “Respect the GOAT”

Marvel Rivals is rapidly establishing itself as a leading contender in the hero shooter genre. However, prominent gamer Shroud emphasizes the importance of honoring the game’s predecessors.

In an impressive display of popularity, Marvel Rivals reached over 10 million players globally across all platforms within just 72 hours of its launch. This remarkable achievement was followed by an even more astonishing doubling of that player count just nine days later.

On December 8, Marvel Rivals achieved a peak of 480,990 concurrent players on Steam. As of January 6, it continues to thrive as the third most played game on the platform, boasting over 330,000 concurrent players according to Steam Charts.

Looking ahead, Season 1 promises to sustain this momentum with the introduction of new characters, including the Human Torch and Sue Storm, capturing the excitement of fans.

Shroud Calls for Respect Towards Overwatch Amidst Marvel Rivals Buzz

As discussions heat up about the possibility of Marvel Rivals dethroning Overwatch as the top hero shooter, Shroud remains cautious. He stated, “Overwatch is absolutely a much better game, but you have to remember that’s comparing a new game to an old game, like Counterstrike to Valorant,” during a recent stream argued.

Shroud urged fans to keep in mind the extraordinary impact that Overwatch had upon its release in 2016. He reminisced, “People forget how good that game was when it came out.” He highlighted several key aspects, noting that “It ran good, looked good, the frames were insane, anyone could play it, and matchmaking was good. That game took over the world. Don’t disrespect the GOAT.”

While Blizzard does not provide specific player count details for Overwatch, making direct comparisons challenging, it is noteworthy that Overwatch 2 has recently seen a significant decline in its player base on Steam, falling to a low of 16,919 concurrent players.

Although this figure does not represent the entire user base—given that many players access the game via BattleNet instead of Steam, along with its significant console presence—it suggests that Overwatch may be feeling the competitive pressure from Marvel Rivals.
