Shyvana is finally set to receive a long-anticipated Visual and Gameplay Update (VGU), which will revamp both her abilities and her in-game appearance. However, plans for her rework have encountered delays, primarily due to the recent changes in League of Legends’ seasonal structure.
Despite Riot Games’ continuous efforts to enhance her viability within the League of Legends meta, Shyvana has consistently performed as a stat-heavy champion. Players either opt for a full Ability Power (AP) build to maximize damage from her Dragon Form E or pursue raw stats for dominant trades against opponents. Unfortunately, this approach has led to a gameplay style that often feels one-dimensional, with Shyvana lacking early ganking tools in her most common role as a jungler.
Although she boasts a dedicated player base, Shyvana has been in dire need of an overhaul for quite some time. Fortunately, Riot has confirmed that a rework is indeed in progress, albeit with a lengthy wait ahead.
What is the Release Date for Shyvana’s Rework?
Currently, Shyvana’s rework is not expected to debut until at least 2026. With Skarner’s rework previously postponed multiple times, it’s challenging to estimate an exact timeline for Shyvana’s updates. The postponement is a direct consequence of the ongoing impact of the acclaimed series ‘Arcane’ on League of Legends.
Riot Meddler has acknowledged and apologized for the delay, explicitly outlining that players should not anticipate any updates before the distant future. “She won’t be in 2025. We completely agree that the lengthy wait is frustrating for those eager for her refresh, and we apologize for that. Moving forward, we aim to avoid announcing updates this far ahead to mitigate that sense of unmet expectations,”he stated.
The situation recalls the similar delays experienced by champions like Viktor, who received an Arcane-related VGU coinciding with the release of Arcane Season 2. This context explains the postponement of Shyvana’s rework.
Expected Changes to Shyvana’s Abilities
Specific details regarding Shyvana’s updated abilities remain scarce, with initial announcements offering only vague insights into the design team’s objectives. Despite the lack of clear information, we can still glean some context regarding the planned updates.
According to Riot Sopebox, the rework aims to preserve Shyvana’s strong thematic identity as a beloved part of the League roster. “Our focus is on refining and enhancing her gameplay rather than completely overhauling her narrative and themes. Think more along the lines of Udyr than Skarner,”they explained.
Looking at Udyr’s recent rework, he maintained much of his foundational gameplay while receiving enhancements, such as an additional passive that added depth to his existing stances. This approach suggests that Shyvana will likely retain her Dragon form, although no final decisions have been made, and players will have to wait for more concrete details as they emerge.
