Jang Theo, a standout figure from Season 4 of Single’s Inferno, is currently under scrutiny after he was caught liking a negative social media comment about his love interest, Lee Si-an. This controversy comes as Si-an, recognized as the most popular female contestant on the Netflix dating series, navigates the complexities of her affections.
In the dramatic conclusion of Episode 6, Theo and fellow contestants Yuk Jun-seo, Kim Jeong-su, and An Jong-hoon all expressed their desire to spend time with Si-an in Paradise. Ultimately, Si-an chose Jun-seo for their getaway, although she previously indicated that Theo held a special place in her heart, making her emotional confusion evident.
Controversy Over Jang Theo’s Actions
The backlash against Jang Theo intensified after a screenshot emerged revealing that he liked an Instagram comment labeling Si-an a “pick me girl” and drawing a comparison to Season 3 contestant Lee Gwan-hee. The post, which directly tagged Theo and Si-an, stated:
This is so weird of Theo byu/Glittergirl2424 inSinglesinferno2
It read: “@tachyonproject you need to stay away from pick me girl @youseeany she is such a pick me girl. And she is just playing with your heart. It’s more like @youseeany she is more focused on the attention and status boost she gets from all the guys vying for her. She is literally the female version of @leegwanhee0429.”
For context, Gwan-hee stirred controversy during his time on Single’s Inferno Season 3 due to his inability to make a decisive choice amongst multiple romantic interests until the very end.
In response to Theo’s recent actions, one subreddit user noted, “No one told him to pursue Si-an. He did that on his own and closed off all his potential love interests. A real man would stand by his actions and not like a hate post just because the girl didn’t pick him. This is just so weird of him.”
This sentiment was echoed by others, with one commenter stating, “Genuinely nasty. You would think people in the public eye would want to protect each other from vile hatred because they know how easily they could become a target. But I guess he currently feels untouchable.”

Another viewer expressed their disappointment saying, “Saying this as someone who actually likes (or maybe liked??) watching him: he shouldn’t be doing this, and you can’t excuse it by claiming he likes everything without reading it. How are we supposed to know that? This is just terrible on his part even if it isn’t intentional.”
This situation has prompted some to reconsider whether his behavior is an act, suggesting a lack of authenticity in his on-screen persona. However, not all reactions were negative; some fans rushed to defend Theo. They pointed out that he has liked comments praising his connection with Si-an, raising the possibility that his Instagram account may be handled by a professional.
A commenter noted, “Considering they (presumably the manager) also liked comments about them being endgame, my guess is this person might not know English well or is indiscriminately liking almost every comment they see.” Another stated, “He (or his account manager) also liked positive comments about him and Si-an being endgame. It’s clear he needs to fire whoever is in charge of his account.”
Despite this uproar, Theo maintains a loyal fanbase, having emerged as the most followed contestant of Season 4 based on social media metrics. Starting from 551k followers, his Instagram account has catapulted to over a million since the series premiered, with many fans appreciating his persistent loyalty towards Si-an and his humorous interactions.
