The former K-pop girl group SISTAR revealed their thoughts on why romantic relationships are uncommon at the “Idol Athletics Championships.”
In the latest installment of “Jjanbro,”a YouTube series hosted by entertainer Shin Dong-yeob, former K-pop group members SOYOU and Kim Dasom discussed the difficulties and realities that come with being a popular sports event for K-pop stars.
During the championships, Kim Dasom discussed dating rumors, stating:
“There were always rumors about couples forming during the filming of the ‘Idol Athletics Championships.’But honestly, the atmosphere is far from romantic. I mean, fans are watching every one of us through binoculars. How could we even talk to each other? Once you’re there, you’d understand-there’s no way any romance could blossom.”
The K-pop ‘Summer Queens’ who are known as the Legendary Girl Group.
SOYOU responded to a question about the appeal of watching male idols compete in sports by dismissing the idea, stating:
“I never even looked at them. I was always so tired during filming that I didn’t care who ran or who won first place. The only thing I wanted to do was go home.”
During the conversation, the difficulties that SISTAR encountered while competing in the championships were also discussed. SOYOU disclosed:
“We actually faced complaints from other agencies back then. They were like, ‘If SISTAR joins, we won’t stand a chance at winning first place. Remove SISTAR from the lineup.’ So, we even ended up holding a ‘retirement ceremony.’”
This dispute arose due to SISTAR’s repeated triumphs in relay races and archery. Despite having less practice time compared to other teams, SISTAR consistently excelled, causing resentment among their competitors and ultimately resulting in their withdrawal from future championships.
During a recent interview on “Daebak Show with Eric Nam,”Hyolyn, the previous lead singer of the iconic girl group SISTAR, discussed the idea that the group would not have been formed without her.
Despite being offered the idea, Hyolyn firmly rejected it, emphasizing that SISTAR’s formation was a result of the collaboration between the agency and all four members. She stressed that the absence of any member would have hindered the group’s creation. Hyolyn’s statements emphasize the significance of teamwork and the collective effort that contributes to the achievements of idol groups.
