On Friday, October 11, 2024, the official X (previously Twitter) account for the anime series “Sk8 the Infinity”announced the release date for its upcoming OVA project, set for Wednesday, March 19, 2025. This announcement was accompanied by a new promotional video and a fresh key visual for the OVA.
The “Sk8 the Infinity”OVA will also have early theatrical showings for a limited time at 10 select theaters across Japan, starting on Friday, January 24, 2025. At this moment, details regarding the duration of these screenings or any international showings remain undisclosed.
March 2025 to Feature All Four Episodes of Sk8 the Infinity OVA
The newly released trailer for the “Sk8 the Infinity”OVA runs for about 15 seconds, showcasing the series’ key characters. The trailer features no spoken dialogue and instead plays music from the series. Additionally, the brief preview does not reveal much else. The key visual prominently displays Miya Chinen, Langa Hasegawa, and Reki Kyan striking dynamic poses.
This OVA consists of four episodes, each titled as follows: “Ame to Neko Conbini Ice Soda Aji,” “Maji de Maji ni Nareru Koto,” “Morning Routine,” and “Ganbare Hiromi-chan!” The original staff from the first season of the television anime will reunite for this project, including director Hiroko Utsumi from BONES, script supervisor Ichiro Okouchi, and character designer Michinori Chiba.
As it stands, further substantial information about the upcoming project is limited. However, fans can anticipate a comprehensive trailer to be released in the coming weeks in light of the OVA’s early theatrical screenings in January. This trailer is likely to introduce returning and new voice cast members, additional production staff, the OVA’s theme songs, and more details.
Information regarding the second season’s production is not expected soon, with significant updates likely postponed until after the OVA’s official release on March 19, 2025. Fans may have to wait until late 2025, if not into 2026, for the arrival of the second season.
The first season of the anime debuted on ABC TV and TV Asahi’s “Animazing!!!”block back in January 2021. The theatrical release of the OVA will be the first new content for the series in three years. The now-defunct Funimation streaming service aired the series as it was released in Japan and began streaming an English dubbed version in February 2021.
The plot of the first season centers around Reki, who gets involved in “S,” an underground, perilous skateboard race set in an abandoned mine, alongside Langa, who just returned from Canada and has never skateboarded before. The story follows their adventures as they compete and encounter a vibrant array of characters.
