Skibidi Toilet creator accuses Garry’s Mod of copyright infringement with DMCA strike

Skibidi Toilet creator accuses Garry’s Mod of copyright infringement with DMCA strike

The developer of Garry’s Mod, in a recent announcement, disclosed that ‘DaFuq!?Boom!’, known for creating Skibidi Toilet, has issued a DMCA strike against the game for allegedly violating copyright laws.

In 2024, Garry Newman, the creator of Garry’s Mod, announced that any Nintendo-related workshop items uploaded in the past 18 years would be removed due to a takedown notice from Nintendo. This incident occurred earlier in the year and was reported by several sources such as The Verge.

Now, another DMCA notice has been received for Garry’s Mod, this time from the creator of Skibidi Toilet who claims that copyrighted assets were used without authorization.

The takedown notice alleges unauthorized usage of copyrighted content.

The takedown notice states that the Titan Cameraman, Titan Speakerman, Titan TV Man, and Skibidi Toilet are all protected by copyright and that their unauthorized usage has generated substantial revenue.

The notice clarifies that the assets were being utilized to promote Garry’s Mod games and that there is no official Steam, Valve, or Garry’s Mod content associated with Skibidi Toilet.

The first public announcement of the DMCA claim was made by Garry Newman on the Garry’s Mod s&box Discord server, when he shared a screenshot of the notice.

Newman brought up a topic in the Discord chat, stating, “Can you believe the cheek of the Skibidi Toilet guys sending a DMCA? It’s just as bad, if not worse than the Nintendo DMCA.”

The Skibidi Toilet itself is one of the copyrighted assets mentioned in the DMCA claim.

In the screenshot provided by Newman, it is evident that there is a Registration Number assigned to the assets. A search of this number reveals that all four content assets have been claimed by Invisible Narrative LLC.

Despite Newman’s posting of the screenshot, he has not addressed the claim any further and has not mentioned the DMCA strike elsewhere.

Despite the abundance of user-generated content in Garry’s Mod, the developers would have to sort through countless assets if they were to comply with the claim. It remains unclear if Newman intends to remove all Skibidi Toilet-related content, similar to his actions with Nintendo.
