Slim Chances for the Return of Destiny 2 Raid Wrath of the Machine

Bungie has unveiled its roadmap for raids in Destiny 2 for 2025, but the absence of any mention of Wrath of the Machine has further diminished hopes for its comeback.

Originally launched on September 23, 2016, as part of the Rise of Iron expansion for vanilla Destiny, Wrath of the Machine features a chaotic World’s First race and the memorable quest for the World’s First Outbreak Prime, earning it a cherished spot among Destiny enthusiasts. Fans have been eager for its return for some time now.

However, on September 25, 2024, Bungie detailed its new raid plans, indicating a shift to just one annual raid launch at the start of each year. This announcement seems to signal the end of any chances for Wrath of the Machine to be reprised in Destiny 2.

The developers noted that their focus will be on expanding challenges within existing raids toward the conclusion of each expansion. This news is surprising, considering the successful reprise of Vault of Glass, Crota’s End, and King’s Fall, making Wied so many players expect Wrath of the Machine to follow suit. Yet, the recent overhaul of content by Bungie appears to have sidelined this raid.

Many fans are voicing their discontent; one user remarked, “It’s incredibly weird how Bungie seemingly erases the fact that Rise of Iron had a raid,” while another added, “So we can finally put to rest the yearly leaks of Wrath of the Machine returning, right?”

Content creator Skarrow9 commented, “If we don’t get Wrath this year, it really seems like we just aren’t going to get it.” This sentiment resonates, given Bungie’s lack of clear communication regarding the future of The Final Shape DLC.

Hope remains for a reprise of Wrath of the Machine before the launch of Frontiers next year. However, the ongoing silence from Bungie is concerning, as the community’s positivity continues to dwindle.

Historically, Destiny 2 has seen two new raids and dungeons released before major expansions. So far, only one raid, Salvation’s Edge, has emerged from The Final Shape. While this raid captured players’ attention, the subsequent content has left many craving more.
