SM Entertainment and HYBE Entertainment Receive Criticism for Failure to Address Deepfake Controversy

On September 2, a post titled “K-pop agencies’ response to deepfake controversy”was shared on the Korean forum ‘theqoo’, gaining over 40,000 views in a matter of hours.

It was previously revealed that Korean female celebrities make up 53% of the victims of deepfake pornography videos worldwide, causing great distress among both fans and the Korean public.

In response to the aforementioned topic, several K-pop agencies, such as JYP, YG, ModHaus, FCENM, ATRP, and others, have declared their intent to take legal measures against deepfake.

Despite being major players in the industry, SM and HYBE have not announced any measures to protect their artists from deepfake crimes, despite repeated demands from fans. This lack of action has also caused frustration among the general public.
