SNSD Hyoyeon Opens Up About Meeting Junior Idols: ‘I Tend to Be A Bit…’

In a recent episode of her YouTube series, Girls’ Generation’s Hyoyeon discussed her worries about interacting with younger idols.

On June 19, the web content “Half Day Class”was introduced on the YouTube channel “Hyo’s Level Up“.

During Episode 1, the entertainer who was previously an idol invited JTBC announcer Kang Jiyoung to deliver a special speech lecture.

In this setting, the 14-year announcer acted as Hyoyeon’s coach and instructor, providing guidance on enhancing her speech abilities and unlocking her full potential as a host.

To better assist her, Kang inquired about Hyoyeon’s primary concerns as an MC, prompting her to immediately open up and share:

“I have another program where I buy meals for fellow idols. I do want to give them some advice myself.

But these days, what I’m most concerned about is being too old-fashioned. Because I have a lot of old-fashioned traits.”

Upon hearing lecturer Kang’s statement about T type individuals, the idol chimed in:

“But for the listener, it may feel good old-fashioned. But I get apprehensive wanting to avoid being old-fashioned, what can I do about that?”

Upon hearing her speak, announcer Kang affirmed her to be old-fashioned and attributed it to their age, while younger individuals would label them as belonging to the old-fashioned category.

Despite being only 34 years old, Hyoyeon is already regarded as a veteran in the K-pop industry, having accumulated 20 years of experience. Therefore, she often shares anecdotes and insights from her past experiences.

Additionally, she is part of the early 2nd generation of girl groups, while most of the current active junior idols come from the fourth and fifth generations. This creates a noticeable gap and cultural difference between them.

Kang Jiyoung advised the SNSD member by saying:

“It’s easier if you accept it. Second, say everything you want then say, ‘Oh, was I a bit old-fashioned?’ Cover it up like that, then it’s fine. Just say, ‘Oh, was I too old-fashioned? Agh.’ and move on.”

Kang Jiyoung proceeded to express her admiration for Hyoyeon by stating:

“And you might indeed be old-fashioned. With a high probability. I’m telling you, it’s not easy to become old-fashioned. First, you have to survive in this industry for over 10 years.”

In 2007, Hyoyeon made her debut in the music industry as a member of the popular group SNSD, known as the “Nation’s Girl Group.”During their break in 2018, she ventured into new territory and debuted as a DJ. In the same year, she also began her solo career under the name HYO, with the release of her single “SOBER.”

Currently, she is solidifying her position as a host for multiple variety shows and running her own YouTube channel.
