After a recent live broadcast, SNSD’s Hyoyeon caused a stir on the internet by mentioning her former co-member, Jessica Jung, suggesting that the SM ban may have finally been lifted.
On June 7, Hyoyeon went live on Instagram to connect with K-pop fans, specifically her fandom, SONEs.
As their 17th debut anniversary approaches in August, the eight-member group has been bombarded with questions about their plans for this important milestone.
Fans are eagerly anticipating a complete return with the release of a new album, as the group has been on a break for approximately 2 years since their 2022 album, “FOREVER1”.
The second-generation female idol replied by expressing her desire for their group’s comeback, similarly to their fans.
“I’m also waiting for an SNSD comeback.”
Not only did this provide insight into the fans’ reactions, but it was even more exciting when the idol clearly and loudly mentioned Jessica Jung’s name for the first time in 10 years since her departure from the group, causing screams of delight among the fans.

She called out to one of her fans by name, exclaiming:
“Jessica Jung, hello!”
Despite originally debuting as a nonet, the departure of Jessica Jung from SNSD resulted in the remaining members being forced to behave as if she had never been a part of the group.
Despite blurring her out from past photos and videos, the members continued to exclude her name and acted as if there were only eight members.
During that time, the members were unable to act impulsively because Jessica had been blacklisted by SM Entertainment, preventing her from appearing on national broadcast and major channels. Fans strongly believed that the other members had been instructed to exclude her from their stories.
Now that Hyoyeon mentioned her name with a big smile on her face, fans were wondering if the “ban”had finally been lifted.
Despite originally debuting as Girls’ Generation’s main vocalist in 2007, Jessica Jung’s time with the group abruptly ended in 2014. She disclosed that she was forced to leave by SM Entertainment, who presented her with the ultimatum of choosing between her career as an idol or pursuing a business venture. There were also speculations that a vote among the members was held to determine her fate within the group.
During that period, she faced accusations of being unable to fully devote herself to her practice and career as an idol, as she had also launched a successful fashion brand called Blanc&Eclare at the same time.
Despite SM Entertainment’s claims, Jessica decided to step away from her SNSD activities in order to dedicate more time and attention to her successful fashion brand, which has already gained popularity beyond Korea.
