Tiffany from SNSD reflected on her decision to depart from SM Entertainment and move to the US in 2017. Does she have any regrets about her choices at that time?

Tiffany Young, a member of the popular K-pop group Girls’ Generation, known as the “Nation’s Girl Group,”was interviewed by Ten Asia on June 26. During the interview, she discussed her busy schedule and various projects in the entertainment industry.

The reporters were amazed by her youthful and vibrant presence during the interview, finding it hard to believe that she is already a seasoned senior idol with 18 years of industry experience.

The primary purpose of the media’s meeting with the idol-actress was to celebrate her new role in the Disney+ drama series, “Uncle Samsik,”where she portrayed the captivating character of Rachel Jung.

As she made the transition from idol to actress, the rookie shared her preparations and emotions surrounding the change.

“It’s still a dream-like time. I’ve said hello to people in the music, brand, and fashion fields, but this is my second time in acting. I’m having a happy and grateful time.”

I would like to add:

“I didn’t just analyze Rachel’s character itself. I studied all the characters very hard and analyzed their relationships a lot. After looking at the characters I analyzed, the director approached Rachel with a unique idea. They praised me for making it feel more three-dimensional.”

During a discussion about her role, Tiffany subtly alluded to her departure from SM Entertainment by expressing her desire for independence and the freedom to make her own decisions without being constantly directed by others.

She conveyed her thoughts:

“After Girls’ Generation’s 10th anniversary, I moved to the U.S. to study as well as started writing and composing songs.

I wanted to live the life of a leading artist, not something someone told me to do.

I decided that I would figure it out and I wanted to pour my passion into the stories I chose, so I was very curious.

The work called ‘Uncle Samsik’ and choosing the character ‘Rachel’ was entirely my own choice, and I think I got to see more through this project.

When I get hooked on something, I dig into it tenaciously. I was happy while working on this project.”

During the month of October in 2017, Tiffany Young departed from SM following SNSD’s 10th debut anniversary. At that time, the label offered a brief explanation for her decision to pursue solo endeavors.

Tiffany has previously expressed her gratitude towards SM in interviews, but she has also alluded to the label’s limited opportunities for self-produced idols, particularly for female idols. This has hindered her aspirations to venture into other fields.

Despite gaining her freedom, she assured fans that she would still actively promote as Girls’ Generation. Additionally, she stated her plans to pursue acting, composing, songwriting, and fashion, while also pursuing a career in music.
