Although the Solo Leveling anime is certainly one of the most popular titles at the start of 2024, some fans seem to prefer the original manhwa to its animated adaptation after making this comparison between the two formats.
Featured in the list of the most anticipated anime of 2024, Solo Leveling has clearly met the public’s expectations, quickly becoming one of the most popular titles among fans of the genre. The anime, adapted from Chugong’s manhwa, debuted on January 7, being produced by studio A-1 Pictures, known among others for Blue Exorcist, Sword Art Online, Seven Deadly Sins and more recently Mashle.
An anime that has seduced fantasy fans and has established itself as a must-see for this winter season, so much so that it has even broken this important record. But although the animated adaptation of Solo Leveling is already one of the most popular titles at the start of the year, some seem to prefer the original manhwa, highlighting the differences in artistic style that can be found between the two formats.
Solo Leveling fans prefer the manhwa drawings
Fans of manga and anime know this all too well, but the designs and style chosen by the artists play a major role in these works. This not only allows you to add a unique touch that will allow them to stand out from the others, but it is also a good way to know what the tone of the story will be.
And if overall, the anime Solo Leveling does honor to the original material, there are necessarily some differences, inherent to the very principle of adaptation. And among the changes reported by fans, we notably find the eyes of Sung Jin-woo, the protagonist of the story. Indeed, an Internet user on Reddit will explain that he prefers manhwa mainly because of the level of saturation, declaring this: “I prefer manhwa only because of the saturation, I like the darkness of the colors” .
An opinion that seems to be shared by many, although the majority agree that the animated adaptation of Solo Leveling remains more than adequate. Because although early fans necessarily hope to be entitled to an adaptation that is as faithful as possible to the style of Dubu (Redice Studio), it should be remembered that each adaptation necessarily brings its share of changes, both in terms of visuals and on the plot side.
