On September 19, 2024, Crunchyroll announced the acquisition of both North American and selected international rights for the highly anticipated Solo Leveling -ReAwakening- film. Set to hit theaters in the United States and Canada on December 6, 2024, this film was revealed alongside the release date for the upcoming second season of the main anime series.
The Solo Leveling -ReAwakening- film will recap the first season of the anime while also providing a sneak peek at the first two episodes of the forthcoming second season, officially titled Solo Leveling Season 2 -Arise from the Shadow-. The new season is expected to premiere in January 2025, based on the latest updates.
Future International Release Dates for Solo Leveling -ReAwakening- Film
As stated previously, Crunchyroll has confirmed that it holds select international distribution rights for the Solo Leveling -ReAwakening- film. As of now, only the North American release dates have been confirmed, but additional international release dates are expected to be announced at a later time. However, it is important to note that these dates are unlikely to be global in scope due to Crunchyroll’s strategy of acquiring specific international rights.
The movie is scheduled to first screen in Japan on November 29, 2024, just a week prior to its international debut. Fans in both Japan and overseas can look forward to seeing the film before the airing of the second season, which is expected to generate excitement among new viewers and longtime fans alike.
Currently, it is uncertain which language format the Solo Leveling -ReAwakening- film will be available in. While an English dub is a possibility, considering Crunchyroll’s previous production of an English dub for the first season, the quick turnaround from Japanese to international release may indicate otherwise. Fans can anticipate more information on this aspect in the coming weeks and months as the film’s release dates approach.
The first season of Solo Leveling premiered in January 2023, comprising 12 episodes. Crunchyroll not only produced an English dub for this season but also streamed the series with English subtitles during its weekly airing in Japan. Directed by Shunsuka Nakashige at A-1 Pictures, with Noboru Kimura as the head writer, the series features character designs by Tomoko Sudo and music composition by Hiroyuki Sawano.
This anime is based on the original Solo Leveling manhwa created by author Chugong and the late artist DUBU (Jang Sung-rak). The webtoon was serialized from March 2018 to December 2021, originating as a web novel by Chugong that ran from July 2016 to December 2021.
