The eagerly awaited release date for Solo Leveling Season 2: Arise from the Shadow has been announced. Fans can anticipate the premiere on January 4, 2025, marking its return during the first week of the new year.
A trailer has been unveiled, showcasing captivating new musical scores for the season. The opening theme will be titled ‘Reawaker (feat. Felix of Stray Kids)’, performed by the acclaimed artist LiSA. Meanwhile, the ending theme will be ‘Un-Apex’, featuring TK from Ling Tosite Sigure.
In addition, Crunchyroll has confirmed that it will stream the latest episodes concurrently with their airing in Japan, with plans to offer dubbed versions as well.
This upcoming season will retain the original cast and production team from Season 1, debuting almost a full year after Season 1, which premiered on January 7, 2024.
Solo Leveling Compilation Movie Limited Release
To build anticipation for the upcoming season, a compilation film titled Solo Leveling: Reawakening was released in Japan at the end of November. This film not only encapsulated the storyline of the series but also gave audiences a glimpse of the first two episodes of Season 2.
In collaboration with Sony Pictures, Crunchyroll facilitated screenings of this movie across select regions in December, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia. It was made available in both English subbed and dubbed formats.
The film achieved notable box office success, grossing over $2.4 million during its opening weekend in the US, securing the 7th spot in the box office rankings. After a two-week run, it concluded with total earnings surpassing $3.3 million, as reported by Anime News Network (ANN).
These figures have parallels with another niche anime film released in December, the remastered version of Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem, which earned $2.3 million during its exclusive single-night screening in the United States.
The performance of Solo Leveling hints at a growing interest in mainstream seasonal anime, although definitive conclusions are elusive. The contrasting appeal of Interstella—which likely targets Daft Punk aficionados—complicates clear comparisons, though it’s reasonable to assume that a significant number of anime fans engaged with it as well.
In contrast, the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – To the Hashira Training compilation movie grossed an impressive $11.5 million during its opening weekend, ranking second in the US box office. However, it’s important to note that Demon Slayer enjoys a more established popularity compared to Solo Leveling.
The upcoming Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 compilation movie may provide better insights into anime’s expanding appeal, particularly if it secures an international theatrical release.
