Solo Leveling: this scene from episode 11 was better in the manhwa according to fans

If so far, most agree that the Solo Leveling anime did justice to the eponymous Chugong manhwa, a scene discovered in episode 11 still divided fans.

As the Solo Leveling anime nears the end of its first season, fans were able to (re)discover some epic moments thanks to the animated adaptation produced by A-1 Pictures.

In particular, they were able to witness several Dantesque fights by Sung Jinwoo, who has already faced the formidable Cerberus. His latest enemy, and not the least, is none other than Igris the Bloody, the famous commander acting as boss during the class change quest. A fight that fans were eager to see on their screens.

It is all these fights which have largely contributed to making Solo Leveling one of the best animes of the start of 2024. However, there is a scene in episode 11 that seems to have taken some liberties from the original work, thus giving rise to debate among Internet users.

Warning: this article contains spoilers for episode 11 of Solo Leveling!

This difference between Solo Leveling anime and manhwa

In episode 11 released last weekend, Sung Jinwoo will sit on the throne after defeating Igris, but the image differs slightly from that of the webtoon.

It’s a hard-won victory, so our hero is exhausted, but the details present on the throne itself and all around the box in the manhwa gave a certain gravity to the work. In any case, this is what a fan pointed out on Reddit, who then asked the fan community if they also think that this passage was “cooler” in the manhwa.

Changes at the level of the throne, but also at the level of the appearance of the protagonist, which therefore influence the felt intensity of the fight against Igris. “It looks like he didn’t receive any damage in the anime but I generally liked it,” said one user.

Some rightly highlight Sung Jinwoo’s level of exhaustion, which seems to be less pronounced in the anime compared to the manhwa, while the hero has just survived an encounter as serious as it is brutal. Another user then declared: “What seems to be missing from the anime is the destruction of clothes. His clothes always appear to be without a scratch in the anime. This was also the case in episode 4” .

“The manhwa panel makes it look like he’s dead compared to the anime where he just looks tired,” said another fan. But when the visuals fail to tell the whole story, the interpretation of the seiyū (ie: voice actors) can change the situation. This is precisely what another user explained: “I think the art for the manhwa here is better than the art for this scene in the anime, but the voice actor’s vocal performance carried this scene with his breathing difficult and harsh” .

So there is only one episode of Solo Leveling left, in which Jinwoo will certainly have to complete his class change quest. In any case one thing is certain, it is that the hero will still have to struggle in future fierce battles, including one which was teased in episode 11 and which is eagerly awaited by fans.
