Solutions to Resolve Screen Flickering in Throne and Liberty on PC

Throne and Liberty, the latest MMO title from Amazon Games developed by NCSOFT, has launched successfully on Steam. The PC version showcases a well-polished experience, complete with several quality-of-life enhancements that we hope will be adopted by more MMOs in the future. However, players may encounter some technical difficulties at launch. If you’re experiencing visible screen flickering and you are using an NVIDIA GPU, here’s how to resolve the issue in Throne and Liberty.

Resolving Screen Flickering Issues in Throne and Liberty

This flickering problem is specific to NVIDIA users. If you have the latest Game Ready drivers installed, you may notice screen flickering when the Volumetric Clouds setting is on the highest level.

In-Game Solution: Reduce Volumetric Clouds Setting

The developers have acknowledged this as a known issue and recommend that players lower the Volumetric Clouds setting from Epic to either High or Medium.

This adjustment will mitigate the flickering until a permanent fix is released by the developers to address the issue with the latest drivers. The problem occurs exclusively with the latest NVIDIA drivers and only for this specific setting.

Downgrade Your GPU Drivers

If you prefer to maintain the highest Volumetric Clouds setting, consider installing an earlier version of the NVIDIA drivers. You can download driver version 556.12 or any version that precedes it.

For those not using an NVIDIA GPU but still encountering screen flickering, please refer to our troubleshooting checklist below.

  • Update DirectX and the Visual C++ Redistributables.
  • Switch to the dedicated GPU if you’re using a laptop.
  • Verify game files via the Steam client:
    • Open Steam and go to your Library.
    • Right-click on Throne and Liberty and select Properties.
    • Under the Installed Files tab, click on Verify integrity of game files.
  • Ensure your Windows operating system is fully updated.
  • Check that you have the latest GPU drivers: NVIDIA, AMD, Intel.

Since this is a recognized problem, we anticipate that the developers will collaborate with NVIDIA to provide a driver hotfix soon. Screen flickering is not the only issue affecting gameplay; if you’re having trouble getting controllers to function correctly in Throne and Liberty, check out our guide for solutions.
