The process of Onix hatching from an Egg and the characteristics of a baby Kanghaskan may seem unclear. However, not all Pokemon have a logical explanation, and introducing new evolutions could potentially provide more information.
It is logical for Charmander to evolve into Charmeleon and subsequently Charizard. This small fire-breathing lizard becomes progressively stronger and larger, gaining wings and mastering more potent attacks. Such evolutionary patterns in Pokemon are reasonable.
While many Pokemon evolution chains make sense, there are some that seem completely illogical. This could be due to radical physical changes between evolutions or the initial stage appearing unlikely to hatch from an Egg. These particular chains push the limits of belief.
The addition of baby Pokemon in Generation 3 was a strategic decision, however, it resulted in some Pokemon appearing peculiar. It is difficult to fathom how a fully-grown Lapras, Pinsir, or Onix could emerge from an Egg. Their formidable appearances and towering stature could lead one to believe that they have already evolved.
It would not be feasible to introduce baby versions of all Pokemon. However, it would be beneficial to have pre-evolutions for larger and more aggressive Pokemon such as Onix. For instance, a diminutive rock-snake Pokemon named Pebblix or Gravlix would make perfect sense and be irresistibly adorable. This solution would benefit both players and the overall logic of the game.
According to a recent online discussion among Pokemon fans, some other Pokemon also appear to be incomplete. Tropius, Carnivine, and Sudowoodo have been pointed out as examples of ‘mons that feel disjointed. To improve its standing, Tropius requires a baby evolution and better stats, while Carnivine and Sudowoodo would benefit from a subsequent evolution.
Many fans are still perplexed by Kangaskhan, a Pokemon that lacks a baby evolution or pre-evolution form.
The lore behind the baby Kangaskhan in its pouch was never fully clarified (as it was only introduced in Gen 1 when breeding was not yet available). However, introducing a baby form could add a sense of coherence to the evolution chain. One possibility is that Kangaskhan takes in young Kangaskhans and guides them until they are ready to evolve.
Despite not being known for its logical consistency, the Pokemon franchise continues to captivate audiences. The release of Pokemon Legends Z-A has raised questions about how evolution chains will be handled and if any new Pokemon evolutions, including Mega Evolutions, will be introduced in the highly anticipated game.
Fortunately, it appears that Game Freak remains dedicated to providing explanations or further development for certain evolution lines, evident in the recent introduction of Basculegion, Farigiraf, and Annihilape to the Pokemon universe. These creatures do not contradict any previous knowledge we had about their pre-evolutions.
It is highly likely that the upcoming installments in the Pokemon franchise will introduce us to more captivating evolutions, whether it be a baby Onix, new Kalos evolutions (Hawlucha deserves some attention), or regional evolutions such as Kleavor. We can only hope that these evolutions will be logical and sensible.
