Song Hye-kyo Opens Up About Divorce and Speculation: “I’ve Faced Challenges as a Woman and Actress”

On January 12, Song Hye-kyo made a striking appearance on the YouTube channel Fairy Jae-hyung, showcasing her new dramatic short haircut.

As she entered the home of host Jung Jae-hyung, he was visibly impressed, stating, “Your face is so small! It’s been so long, and you’re still so beautiful.” In response, Song Hye-kyo explained the reason behind her haircut, saying, “I cut my hair short for a new project. I’m still getting used to it.” Despite Jae-hyung’s compliments, she humorously remarked, “There’s no way I look like a baby.”

Recently, Song Hye-kyo ventured into the world of vlogging, making her debut on Kang Min-kyung’s YouTube channel following her stint on “You Quiz on the Block.” When discussing this new venture, she laughed and remarked, “I felt it’s something I should try now. At my age, I’m grateful for any interest people still show.”

During the conversation, Jae-hyung noted her apparent ease, saying, “If you were like a baby before, you seem so at ease now.” Song Hye-kyo replied, “I hear that a lot these days. People say I look relaxed. Over the years, I’ve had many experiences, both as a woman and an actress—happy ones, tough ones, and everything in between. I think I’ve learned a lot about life from those experiences.”

Jae-hyung also brought up her recent role in “The Glory,” which showcases a distinct shift from her previous work. Acknowledging this, Song Hye-kyo stated, “I had been doing similar roles and genres for a while. At some point, even I felt bored with my acting. If I was feeling that way, how much more boring and uninteresting must it have been for viewers? When news about ‘The Glory’ came out, I thought viewers wouldn’t have high expectations. But since it was a completely different character in a revenge drama, I think they were pleasantly surprised.”

Reflecting on her career trajectory, she mentioned, “If I had diversified my roles earlier, people wouldn’t have thought, ‘Song Hye-kyo always does the same thing.’ But I kept doing similar projects, and that made it less engaging for me and for the viewers.”

In discussing her co-stars, Song Hye-kyo praised the cast of “The Glory,” particularly Jeon Yeo-been from “Dark Nuns.” She expressed, “They’re so passionate and thoughtful. Sometimes I think, ‘Hye-kyo, why don’t you think as much as they do? You should put more thought into things.’ I’ve been fortunate to meet such amazing juniors who inspire and challenge me.”

Jung Jae-hyung added, “Maybe all the hardships you endured in your 30s in China are finally paying off.” To which Song Hye-kyo responded with laughter, “It’s about time I get my blessings. I think it’s finally my turn.”

It is worth noting that Song Hye-kyo was previously married to actor Song Joong-ki, her co-star in “Descendants of the Sun,” in 2017. However, the couple parted ways amicably after approximately two years.
