After making an emergency landing on a distant island, players of Sons of the Forest will find that there are several regions of the island to investigate and uncover. The fact that players will almost instantly be up against both the elements and the cannibalistic locals of the forest makes for an intriguing and terrifying experience in the genre of survival horror. Yet, entry into particular places requires a keycard since they are more difficult to reach than others in the building.
Obtaining all of the keycards requires a lot of effort, but it is well worth it for those who want to discover the mysteries of the forest and equip themselves with the most powerful equipment. The keycards reveal a significant portion of the history of the island. This guide details how to reach each of the keycard locations in Sons of the Forest as well as the places themselves.
The gameplay is totally open-world and focused on surviving on the island, but it has a progression element by requiring players to acquire tools in order to access important locations. Gamers are required to acquire three significant keycards in order to get certain pieces of gear, weaponry, and collectibles, including the following:
- Maintenance Keycard
- VIP Keycard
- Guest Keycard
The players should begin their search for keycards by looking for the Maintenance card first. This card requires the rebreather, the rope gun, and the shovel.
The Maintenance Keycard Location
Maintenance is the first keycard that players should pursue. It’s in an underground bunker on the island’s north side, highlighted on the GPS with a pulsing green circle. A purple GPS locator marking south of the green marker directs players to the flashlight. The green signal is located at a dig site that includes broken-down golf carts, zoning equipment, and a pile of loose earth in the center of the site. Dig up the loose ground with the shovel, and a hatch entrance will appear.
Unlock the door and descend the ladder into a small area with a few supply containers. A corridor with an open door on the right approximately halfway down and a storage room at the end may be found. The hallway door leads to a completely equipped flat. Inside, the Maintenance Keycard may be found on a desk near to a 3D Printer.
Carl Planter, who works in maintenance, is the rightful owner of this card. After grabbing it, players will be able to utilize the bed around the corner to either save their progress or get some rest. The axe used by the Fireman is also kept in the storage room, but it is enclosed in a glass display case that is mounted on the wall. There will be mutant infants in the storage area, thus you will need to take care of them in order to explore the space securely.
The VIP Keycard Location
VIP status is available to card players. The VIP card is located behind a cave entrance in another underground bunker. The northernmost green circle south of one of the purple GPS locators should be visited by players. In the map, there is also a large lake nearby that players may utilize to discover it. Just seek for two golf carts in front of a cave entrance leading to the card.
Continue the cave until you reach a hatch door, similar to the one leading to the maintenance room. It has the words “Food and Dining” across the entrance and goes down to a damaged kitchen area with food and bodies hanged around the ceiling. The back right side of the room has a lockable door that requires keycard entry. Open the door with Carl’s card to uncover a large hydroponic plant chamber. Here is also where you’ll find the crossbow.
There are other open doors leading to a second hydroponic garden, however there are numerous newborn mutants within as well as a “finger”mutant that must be removed. The finger mutant is considerably more resistant than the newborns, although killing it with a Molotov cocktail or bomb is the quickest method.
Go farther into the kitchen section, beyond the hydroponic garden rooms; eventually, the corridor will flood, forcing players to swim the rest of the way. They will arrive to a corridor with closed doors at the end and an open door on the left after swimming through the last hydroponic garden.
Enter the building and follow the passageways to a stairway leading out of the water. An office with many PCs, file bins, and security footage monitors is located at the top of the stairs. Virginia Puffton’s VIP keycard may be found on the desk underneath the monitors.
Players can use the VIP Keycard to open the doors at the end of the preceding corridor after obtaining it. This takes you to a dining area filled with dead mutants and a brief cutscene. To exit the area, jump out of the back windows and swim out.
The Guest Keycard Location
The Guest keycard is located within one of the caverns in an underground Recreational Center. The entrance to the Recreational Center may be found by traveling to the green circle south of the maintenance dig site and east of the western beach. A broken-down golf buggy will also be by a river, a few feet from from an unmarked cave entrance.
Enter the cave and continue the tube to a chamber equipped with a cot, supplies, and a 3D printer. Another passageway to the left of the main hallway leads to a wall gap with a brilliant light shining through. Squeeze through the entrance to another hall, which is blocked on one side by boulders and mud and on the other by closed doors. To unlock the doors, use the Maintenance keycard. Following that, players will see a large amount of fitness equipment in a dark chamber with a purple light. Go to the light and turn left toward the reception desk. From this point forward, there are mutants in every room, so be prepared to flee or fight.
Beyond the desk, there is another spa area that leads to two big half-spiral staircases. Players must pass past the pool bar area and into the more private clubroom on the second floor at the top of the stairs.
They’ll know they’ve arrived when they see the deceased man in the middle with a guitar stuffed down his throat. Proceed to the rear of the clubroom to the booths, and the Guest keycard is on the back right table with the five corpses.
A guitar that may be used as a melee weapon can also be discovered in the clubroom at the bar. Before departing, players should examine all of the tables and the storage area for cash and ammunition. Return to the pool bar and look to the left for another set of security doors to return to the surface. Open the doors to another well-lit corridor using the Guest keycard. Proceed down the corridor to a tiny lounge with a door on the right. It leads players through a tunnel filled with mutant infants to an escape cave.
