Sorry, 2023’s best Netflix show probably isn’t returning any time soon

It has been announced that one of Netflix’s top original series from 2023 will not be making a comeback on our screens anytime soon. Fans will have to wait another two years before new episodes are released.

Blue Eye Samurai gained a significant following upon its release in 2023, drawing inspiration from top anime shows. Its breathtaking animation and compelling storyline captured the attention of many viewers. Set in 17th century Japan, the series follows the journey of a female samurai seeking vengeance against the men who mistreated her during her childhood.

Amber Noizumi and Michael Green are the creators of the TV show, with all eight episodes being directed by Jane Wu. It seems that Wu will be making a comeback, as she mentioned the anticipated timeline for the return of the quasi-anime series on the platform.

“At the moment, we are in a state of panic as we have a set schedule and budget that we are trying to align,”she explained to Collider. “We are currently in the early stages of production and are in the process of planning everything else.”

She stated that the “greatest desire”is for us to witness the release of Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 in 2026, emphasizing that everyone is eager to have it out “as soon as possible”. Creating exceptional animation requires time, and it is essential to prioritize the process to ensure that no shortcuts are taken.

The debut season of Blue Eye Samurai had the advantage of being a curve-ball, an original production that was suddenly released to our screens one day and received extremely positive feedback. Subsequently, the series gained recognition through word of mouth and continued to thrive.

With the frequent cancellation of shows by streaming services, it is important to appreciate the fact that we are still receiving an abundance of content. Check out our list of upcoming anime for something to look forward to in the meantime – be sure to keep an eye out for Dandadan and Lazarus, which are especially promising.
