According to several sources, teams participating in the Call of Duty Challengers will receive invitations to compete in the $1.8 million Modern Warfare 3 Esports World Cup tournament based on their performance at Champs. This means that there is even more at stake for teams at the upcoming Texas event.
The Esports World Cup is an eight-week celebration, featuring tournaments in various titles and involving top teams from the world of esports competing in multiple games.
There were originally plans for three additional spots for Challenger teams, along with a qualifier for the strongest MENA team to secure their spot in the main tournament. However, due to LAG’s withdrawal, four Challenger invites will now be granted.
Despite some uncertainty surrounding the invitation process for Challenger teams, multiple sources have verified that the four highest-ranked teams at Challenger Champs will secure spots at the Esports World Cup.

The Boston Breach roster for the World Cup is expected to include Joseph ‘Owakening’ Conley, Cameron ‘Cammy’ McKilligan and Evan ‘Purj’ Perez. They are also considered strong contenders for the title at Challengers Finals. However, it remains uncertain at this time what will occur in this situation and players in Challengers are also unsure.
In addition to OMiT Brooklyn, FC Black, Houston Spartans, Lore Gaming, OMiT EU, and other teams are now facing higher stakes for their upcoming appearance in the Challengers Finals.
The COD Challengers Finals are scheduled to occur from July 19-21, and the grand final will be held on the main stage prior to the CDL Champs final.
