Sowon Clarifies GFRIEND Never Disbanded + Fans React To Leader’s Revelation

Sowon’s clarification went viral among Buddies on the internet.

On June 16, Sowon, who started her career as an idol and later became an actress, made a special appearance on Lee Sung Gyu’s YouTube channel, who is a content creator and hairdresser.

While getting her hair done during the episode, Sowon engaged in a casual conversation with the YouTuber about her fellow GFRIEND members and her experience attending VIVIZ’s concert.

Source Music announced GFRIEND’s disbandment on May 18, citing contract expiration as the reason. The following day, the members shared heartfelt handwritten letters addressing their farewell. This provided additional context to the announcement.

Following the unfortunate incident, the members of GFRIEND went their separate ways. In 2021, Sowon signed with IOK Company to pursue acting, but decided to leave the company in 2022. She then joined OUI Entertainment.

Yuju and Yerin made their solo debuts on January 18, 2022 and May 18, 2022, respectively. On the other hand, Eunha, SinB, and Umji came together to form the trio VIVIZ and debuted on February 9, 2022.

Recently, Lee Sung Gyu shared on his Instagram that he has been watching GFRIEND’s previous performances. He also noticed comments from fans expressing concern about the group’s disbandment. However, Sowon pleasantly surprised viewers by clarifying that GFRIEND has not officially disbanded.

Sowon: “Really? I heard it before I met you today.”

Lee Sung Gyu: “There are comments.”

Sowon: “Recalling GFRIEND?”

Lee Sung Gyu: “And asking why they disbanded.”

Sowon: “But we didn’t.”

Lee Sung Gyu: “Ah, termination of contract.”

Sowon: “That’s right. Many articles used to say we disbanded, so people are believing like that.”
