Space Marine 2 Developers Respond with “Petty” Actions in Recently Deleted Patch Notes

The developer of Space Marine 2 responsible for releasing the latest patch notes playfully revealed their support for the Imperial Fists in a rather petty manner.

Space Marine 2 is evidently a passion project crafted by devoted Warhammer 40K enthusiasts. The core gameplay experience stays remarkably true to the Warhammer universe and is filled with references that fans can appreciate and enjoy.

Notably, Warhammer superfan Henry Cavill has given the game his enthusiastic seal of approval because real recognizes real. However, one particularly zealous developer may have allowed their fandom to spill over.

In the latest update for Space Marine 2, which introduced significant features like private PVE lobbies and the option to spar with party members, a now-deleted patch note playfully mocked those who favor the Iron Warriors. This note referred to fans of the sons of Perturabo as “losers.” Although the jab was removed shortly after, players managed to capture screenshots of the original remark.

To provide some context, the bright yellow Imperial Fists legion and the cold silver Iron Warriors have a long-standing rivalry in the 40K lore. This tension primarily stems from the Imperial Fists’ expertise in laying sieges while the Iron Warriors excel in breaching them. The rivalry escalated into mutual animosity when the Iron Warriors succumbed to Chaos, and that rivalry perpetuates spirited discussions among players of both factions.

The Iron Warriors are often humorously portrayed as “losers” due to their susceptibility to Horus’ deception, their affinity for mathematics, and their frequent defeats at the hands of the Imperial Fists. It seems that one Space Marine 2 developer couldn’t resist inserting a reference to this ongoing feud in the game’s latest patch notes.

While outlining a fix that improved the accuracy of chapter colors to align more closely with the tabletop version, the developer inadvertently revealed their allegiance. The original patch note stated: “Fixed several issues with default colors being wrong on some chapters (i.e. Iron Warriors Losers).”

Although developers have yet to comment on the note’s deletion, it was probably done to avoid players misinterpreting it as a personal attack rather than a lighthearted meme for fans. Unsurprisingly, if any chapter was going to experience in-game discrepancies with their color scheme, it would be the Iron Warriors… because they’re “losers.”
